As entertaining as this thread has been, I vote that we voluntarily abandon it. Even though the criticisms thrown around in this thread seem perfectly reasonable, they are still political opinions, and I don't want to offend or even scare off anyone who may have different political leanings. This place is a one-of-a-kind virtual water cooler in an Internet sea of inane drivel, and I'd like to keep it accessible to everyone, regardless of their political leanings.

I'd truly hate for a potential member to come here, see these political posts, and decide not to participate because they think they'd be unwelcome.

This is exactly the sort of traitorous, sniveling political correctness one expects from these Lemurians. Which is why we need an upright Venusian strongman to defend us from the barbaric throngs from Nibiru and beyond.

On the contrary, I think this thread shows that we can discuss politics in a fairly non partisan manner. I don't think we should take it much further, and I agree that the intent is to not make anyone feel unwelcome. I don't really think that has occurred in this thread, or it would have been closed. I think if you had asked Mark if he believed we could have a 22 page political thread without someone being severely butthurt, he would have laughed. Lets keep it civil and respectful.
