Official MWGL Disc Golf Thread...

I'm lucky - 20 years of playing and 30 of reffing soccer have ensured my legs are good. It's above the waist that everything's going to hell on me!!! :jogger:
Football and Basketball for me. At 33 I tore my ACL from playing BBall but I still did a lot of walking and coached my son's B-Ball from grade school through 9th grade. He is 30 now. Also accomplished a Half Marathon before I turned age 50 and in prep, 5/10k's while carrying a hefty body. Now in my 60's, I play DG. Good enough for me and on rare occasions, I will do a low level hike.

DGN (Disc Golf Network) Season Starts!!!!

WOOT!!!

Round 1 is free on You Tube!!!

Maybe I'm in the minority... but I don't really like watching most sports on TV. I can do Notre Dame football because I'm so invested in the team... and I'll watch some NBA basketball...

... but normally I'd rather be at the Stadium or Ball Park.... and both Ball Golf and Disc Golf I'd rather play than watch (other than highlights). :helper:

Depends....

When I played ball golf, I couldn't watch for long period as it did get boring. Also I did not pick up a lot of tips from it. With DG, I pick up on form tips of things to try, how to approach a shot as well as how to play a hole.

Yeah I too would rather be there in person but we don't get alot of the pro tour down here in LA. Have to travel 6-7 hours north for the OTB or another state.

Played Oak Grove (OG) in Pasedena for the 2nd time. This is the 1st permanent pole hole DG course in the world.

I was sporting my new DG Threads from my sponsors today.

Also brought out the big bag as I carried my portable chair as well. Sometimes this course backs up at the tees so I needed a spot to park my ar$$e.

That's the one disc golf course I've played at (several times). I had no idea it has historic significance.

Disc golf is for you xers. We boomers have pickleball…

Just noticed this but I too am a Boomer.

I don't do Pickleball as I was never a fan of Tennis or Ping Pong. Also have a partially torn knee from playing B-Ball back in my early 30's.

Yeah - it does require mobility, quick reflexes, and good hand=eye coordination to be any good at. Disc golf emphasizes the last of these. Also, you can't disc golf indoors, which limits me here in flyover country.

Sadly I am about 20-30 miles to my closest putting league. But I know that in other parts of the country, there are indoor putting leagues during the difficult months. In Kansas, some of the people I know got to play in the Chiefs stadium where they setup a mock course and play from bleachers to the field, etc.

Also if you play guitar, you have some hand/eye coordination and reflexes

Hello @Modern Saint.

I jumped the gun a little and bought a bunch of disc golf stuff. Every time I looked up disc golf sets, the cheaper ones popped up. After I had bought everything and opened it, I looked up disc golf stores, and they tended to have better quality discs. The ones I got seem okay. They are semi soft rubber/plastic. I haven't had a chance to assemble the basket and try them out.
One set came with a tote bag. I replaced that with a small carrying bag.
We've been taking the travel trailer to Lake Cachuma and Lake Casitas. Both lakes have beautiful disc golf courses.

Here's what I got. Almost $300.

Also, maybe I will buy a much better set from you, and let the friends and family use the less accurate sets.

Hey its a start and that is what matters. Sadly I never heard of that brand but it does get you started. As for the basket, no worries about getting a better one at this point. You're starting out and it will help and teach you to putt. Lots of content on you tube. You may want to visit the Latitiude 64 page on You Tube as there is a lot of great beginner content with Jonathan.

Great to have another person interested in DG!!!

Yeah....I'm usually better than that. I'll have the good stuff soon enough.
As @baimun knows, it is addictive but in a great way. I lost almost 40 pounds with this addiction of exercise which leads to eating better, etc. made a whole bunch of new friends as 90% of the DG community is way cool. Sadly you still need to deal with the 10% on occasions but more common in music. The desire to improve is at your pace through You Tube, Clinics and if you really get into it, the DGPT (Disc Golf Pro Tour). Sadly it does not come through SoCal but we occasionally get A Tiers with some of the touring pros passing through. Been meaning to go to Stockton for the OTB in May for the past 3 years but haven't yet. OTB was 2 weekends ago and this weekend they are in Oregon for the Portland Open.
