Official 2012 football thread

With the Oakland Faders at 3-9 I am pulling for them to go 3-13. that way they should get a top 5 draft pick. and of course their second round pick would go to the Bengals. They have no talent in so many positions and under performing talent in most of the other positions.
 
That new running back for the Eagles is a beast! That's one guy they can keep when they clean house in the off-season :embarrassed:
 
Oh, they may not have blown it. The Seahawks, and particularly Wilson, are playing pretty well! Cutler had a good game, as did Marshall. Just not enough.

Chicago has been winning on their defense all year and as good as it is (which is very good) they are not a young group and as the season grinds on they are getting banged up and losing just a little bit. Cutler is good enough to keep you in games but not good enough to win them on his own. He was the same way with Denver. He also is not very good at spreading the field. As good as Marshall is, Cutler has thrown almost 40% of his passes all season his way. At least he avoided any picks this week.

The problem with the Bears, and it has been an issue all through the Lovie regime, is that they play not to lose with the "vaunted, bend-but-not-break defense", and there are times when it bites them in the ass. Yesterday was one of those games - the really telling part was during the Bears' second-to-last offensive possession in regulation (before Seattle got the go-ahead TD). They had a third-and-20 at midfield, and decided to just run the ball and get to fourth down and punt, and hope for the old, tired defense to hold Seattle (oops...), instead of trying a pass (which they had been pretty successful) to get the first. Cutler had a good, mistake free and pretty accurate game going, and Marshall was near-perfect; for Tice to call a run on 3rd and long (second time during the game, BTW), was ludicrous.

Bears could have won this game and gone to 9-3 and still be a game up int the division; instead they are 8-4 and in second place (due to currently edged on the tiebreaker with GB), and have to go to Minnesota next week (mediocre team, but a tough road field), Green Bay at home (GB has pwned the Bears in recent years), Cardinals on the road (SHOULD be a cakewalk), and Detroit on the road (again, crap team, but tough road game). If they don't beat Minne and GB, the division will be lost, and they best will need to hope for a wild card...

The Vikings are done until Harvin gets back, and even then I don't think they are a serious threat to the Bears unless Cutler has one of his 4 pick games. Ponder has been useless that past three weeks and Peterson may be the best RB in football but this is not the 70s and you can't win with just a running game. GB and Det will both be tough games but I expect the Bears to win one of those and that is easily good enough to get into the playoffs.
