Yep, now best get to Pisa before that tower falls over.Well I guess I should have gone to Paris earlier...if/when I go looks like that's off the list

While it won't be the same, historically, I'm sure they can rebuild it.
Look at cities in Germany, like Cologne, that were leveled by bombing in WWII and some of those old huge stone churches were rebuilt. There was a large medeival church south of the Dom along the river that we visited when I went to Cologne that was pretty much flattened during WWII, and they rebuilt it.
They apparently formed a human chain to get many art pieces and relics out, preventing damage.I'm glad the stone part of the structure survived. Evidently most of the artifacts were saved too - I bet there was some heroism involved in getting them out in time.
We were lucky to see it not too long ago - these are from 2015:

It has almost been in a constant state of repair since it was built. Photographs from as far back as 1853 through the 60's:

The only problem I have with the follow up news coverage is that the crown of thorns "believed to have been worn by Jesus when he was crucified" was saved. Really?? What group of idiots believe that?
Too large a group.
Sagrada Familia! I think I literally gasped. For my money, Sainte Chapelle is even more gasp inducing. It’s astounding. Plus, someday I hope to be rich enough to build a personal gothic movement to my own piety so I can hoard al my pilfered relics there.
