Achtung! Notre Dame cathedral in Paris is on fire

Yeah...it looks real bad. I hope the structure survives well enough to be restore-able.

Notre Dame is an incredible building. I treasure the memory of being there during a service and hearing the organ’s sound filling up that huge place. This is a tragedy.
 
I took my son there when he was eleven. We took the tour and went up in the bell tower. From the inside it just looked like an old wood structure that could ignite in seconds. I guess it did. So sad. It's also the centerpiece of that little island, the original beginnings of Paris.

Reuter’s is reporting that the entire roof has collapsed. Hopefully the statues will at least survive.
 
Spire from 1345 or something is gone. They won't be able to restore it. I wonder if the construction had something to do with it.
Best hope is that it basically becomes like the Coliseum and at least has a shell to look at. I can't imagine the restoration with it being so engulfed for so long.

A report said that some of the statues had been removed for renovation work that was going on and may have caused the fire.
