Notes from Pitchfork 2023

It never left, silly.

Some people just don’t know how to own it.

EDIT: Now baseball hats? The definition of pretentiousness. 99% of people who wear them don’t even play baseball. :eyeroll:
I know since yer Canadian you probably don’t understand the differences in “baseball hats” as well as say hockey jerseys but there is differences of the hats. the Dad is similar to a trucker hat but different than a5 panel hat. the dad hat is the one you buy at the Arches National Park gift shop usually made of canvas cotton and a bend that is “sitting on the fence” (basically afraid to commit to either the country thunder festival bend or the Red Bull motorcycle x games flatbill of the extreme sports guy…..not to mention the bent back cyclist CIELE wearing dude)

TLDR ….the dad hat is the NB 624 of hats

Weyes Blood was excellent. Big high concept 60s FM pop soundtrack to Walt Disney’s Dark Shadows. She’s an excellent vocalist and her rhythm section did a great job of adding oomph and propulsion to all those big swooping songs. Best set of the night and one of the best things I’ve seen in years.

Big Thief were very good. Probably the best playing “band” of the day in terms of people who had chops and were feeding off each other in an organic way. Set pacing was a little wonky, but they’re a good group and the whole situation was that kind of comfy well-done thing that you could hang out in a field and listen to forever.

That sounds fantastic. I'd have loved to have seen both performances. The haphazard shit aroun it sounds a real ball-ache though.

Big Theif was awesome at P Fork bro...I wasn't there, didn't see the performance but take my word....awesome ! Also Drummer always reminds me of Mick Fleetwood.

The drummer from Big Thief caught the zeitgeist and showed up in a bucket hat during Bob Welch's performance at Pitchfork!

Did you see The Smile? I watched them live on Youtube. I watched quite a bit of the live stream this weekend. There were some really good groups I had never heard of. I miss Chicago.

I swear I saw a guy in a pith helmet

Not unheard of
