Thanks a lot everybody!
I slept in very late (I'm on vacation today, and I plan on trying to pull an allnighter tonight on my ham radio for a ham radio contest). I have to run some quick errands, but when I get back home, I plan to spend some more quality time with my J-35.
sunvalleylaw - the top is Sitka spruce, the back, sides, and neck, are solid mahogany, and the fingerboard is rosewood. It is a bit shorter scale, than your typical acoustic, with its 24.75" scale length. It also comes stock with a Baggs Element pickup system installed (complete with a tailpin jack, and cleverly hidden volume control on the upper edge of the soundhole).
I like Martins, and almost bought a D16R several months ago. I considered getting a D15, but I was intrigued by the (new model) Gibson J-15 I tried out last week Saturday. It sounded nice, and I thought it's solid walnut back and sides looked cool. Also, I like that fact that it sounded different than your typical Martin dreadnought, but I found its neck a bit on the thin side for my taste (although, I did like the fact that the neck was wider than a Martin's 1.725" vs 1.688"). I'd read some good things about the J-35, and that it also had a pretty chunky neck (which as I mentioned earler, I perfer in guitar necks), so I took the plunge, and spend $200 extra (compared to the J-15), and got the J-35. I'm glad I did!
