Those inlays are awesome. I wonder why other people don't use wood for inlays like that.

Probably cost. Materials+Labor=$$$
No way I could afford goodies like this if I had to pay the labor.
And these are all hand selected out of the block. Many of them are successive layers of the same grain pattern and are very similar in appearance. Especially the 1st and 3rd, the two largest ones. The smallest ones were the hardest to find good pieces for. Had to look for spots on the block that had tight, tiny patterns you could see on the little ones. The amount of time I spent poring over that block of burl wood picking just the right slice for each slot would cost a thousand bucks alone if @dougk were doing it. :lol:
With dots, you grab a handful out of the drawer, drill 10 holes, etc. it's a much simpler process. Heck, Gibson has a gang drill with 10 bits that will drill dot holes at perfect alignment all day long. Even dots require a certain skill but drilling them isn't terribly time consuming.
