need cheap, decent small car, good on gas

Nice! I bet it is a sweet ride. But that is a lot more dough than say around 9k (per kelly blue book, can probably find them cheaper) for a 2005 hatchback civic that gets decent mileage. 15k buys a lot of gas.

I wasn't suggesting it for peeker. I would suggest a Civic or Corrolla for the Peekster.

I understand. I do like the idea of a TDI Jetta Wagon some day. FWD would be fine, esp. with studs. We keep our cars a long time, and it might be really worth it over the long haul. I wonder what diesel prices will do vs. gas in the coming years.

My '07 Ford Focus gets about 34mpg on the Interstate (70mph), and not much worse than that in a mix of city/state highway (55mph) driving. I can drive back and forth to work all week at mostly 55mph, then go drive in Kalamazoo & Battle Creek on the weekend, and still get about 31mpg when I fill up my tank the next week.

So far it's been a pretty good car :)

looks like I might have a cheap minivan lined up
dont' have a lot fo details yet, but the payment plan can't be beat.

Good luck on the minivan. My wife had a couple of them when the kids were younger. Upside, you can haul a ton of gear in the back of the thing. Downside, they tend to get fairly shitty gas mileage, and handle like boats.

apparently, it gets about the same as the POS car Zoe has right now...
with the bonus of being able to haul my gear (my bass cabs don't fit in her car)

time will tell, I guess.

really, I only need it to get to work and back.
I don't go anywhere else.
and it's still cheaper for me to Greyhound into Winnipeg for gigs, as opposed to driving
regarldess of mpg.
$40 gets me there.
$40 only fills our tank once, and it takes more than that to get to Wpg.

Not really. We know how to drive in the snow. :)
Peeker is in the prairies so he's a half day's drive from the nearest hill.

Actually, in most cases, give us rear wheel drive and we are happier.
I turn off my traction control to get out of my neighbourhood when there is heavy snow. I turn it back on to cover the unknown on the rest of the roads.

actually, there's a pretty nasty valley I gotta go thru to get to work
99% sure it's the only one in the province

Minivans are great. most efficient use of a chassis. i know, you wont win cool points.

but they are the best at moving stuff around. and that is what is important.

dude...
I'm in my 40's, bad haircut, pocketfull of Star Wars Toys, chasing 21yr old gals.
cool ain't a worry

I'll paint flames on the sides of it

I fuckin' WILL, too.
