NAMM report - Acoustic Guitars

I didn't bother since the folks who were going to buy from me for my initial buy in bailed. I really didn't want to dump money into inventory that might eventually get sold...

I saw they had some at Elderly in the $250-300 range. Did you guys see any of those or just the higher up ones?

I am just thinking the smaller bodied guitar would be easier to deal with and make it easier for my daughter to play. I think the one I have now sounds great but I dont know that I am going to lose anything there. Just want something that plays well.

Those Recording King guitars look a lot like the Blueridge line. I wonder if they have the same builder?

I thought the same thing. I came close to getting a Blueridge when I was shopping. Wanted to play a Recording King but could not find one. I like the styling better. Those RK's would have been cool to try out when I was shopping last year. I liked the sound of a Blueridge I tried, (aren't they made by the same folks that make RK's?). But I could not get along with the Blueridge bling and the finish was kind of a syrupy gloss that was just too much. Seemed almost too thickly applied. No RK's around to try, and I will not buy and acoustic un-played. I like a little abalone maybe around the sound hole, and maybe fret markers, but don't give me a bunch on the headstock, leave off the vine of life stuff, and leave the back alone. Let the wood show. For instance, even that stuff on the headstock of that first RK Mark posted is too much for me. the rest is ok, and I really like the fretmarkers (that are basically the same as on my guitar).

All that said, when I could not find what I liked in many other lines (detailed in another thread) I ended up with a used Martin that did, and does inspire. I will say also that Neil Young's Martins have always inspired me. But those were made in a different era as well.
