Question: name a popular song (past or present) that you would never, ever cover.

by The Dubliners?

The Dubliners and 1001 other acts.

In this part of the world it pertains to the Irish nationalist movement so i wouldn't play it or any other Irish tune which glorifies their politics, the IRA or the deaths of British soldiers and citizens.

You should come to the US sometime and take a tour of our many "Irish" pubs. Yr blood will be a boilin', laddie.

Americans + phony rustic decor + Guinness = that guy from the Lucky Charms box with a bad fucking attitude. None of them know shit about Irish history, but don't let that stop 'em.

We can also get you a nice bumper sticker to put on your jockwagon when you get back to Scotchina...

Band I was in once semi-unknowingly/accidentally played--for lack of a more delicate way to put this--an IRA benefit. Good times. It was fun when they sent us a copy of their news letter wherein they attributed all sorts of political gibberish to the two singer-guitarists. Especially funny because those two were semi-literate dum-dums who only cared about the Spice Girls and Project Runway.

Irish pubs are like that all over the world (except in Ireland funnilly enough)

The greatest irony of it all is that Ireland has literally NEVER been united and the closest it has ever been was under British rule.

But reality and common sense has never been a strong point of the plastic paddies.

FWIW I'm as equally scathing of Unionists that don't have a clue what they're rallying against.

It's Raining Men?

*adds to list*

I signed a buddy up to sing that at karaoke one night
he wasn't impressed.

I should record it and send him a copy.

Kerouac, I hear ya on the Cohen.

The only song I would never do is that Celine Dion song from Titanic. I was working in retail when that song was huge and the radio station in the store played it over and over. When I hear the first few notes of that song, I go nuts and want to stab out my eardrums with ice picks.

I guess I would play it if I metaled it up and threw on some cookie monster vocals. That may be cathartic.

We Built This City.
I just couldn't bring myself to do that one.

The singer in one of my previous bands suggested it once - I said I'd quit if that happened. :embarrassed:
There is indeed a limit.

THAT'S MY FAVOURITE PART!

dead serious.
it's that line that made me wanna do the tune.

Me too

The drums are absolutely popping in that bridge. Personally I think it would be a really fun tune to play. I once had to learn Hungry Like the Wolf for an audition and I still love the guitar part in it.
