I asked my wife, "What's your favorite version of 'Mr. Bojangles'?"

"Oh, probably Bob Dylan's. I think that's his best song."

Really? So I dug out that covers LP he did in the 70's and played the track for her.

"Hmmmm. You know, maybe I was thinking of someone else."

Like a few others, I like the Dirt Band... 'cause that's what I grew up on. About 25 years ago, I went to the Deerfield NH fair, and they had JJW as a performer. He did that song among others. I thought he was pretty good, and that was around the time when a lot of country acts were blowing up the radio.

Jerry Jeff Walker. Saw him as a ute not even remotely interested in the genre, and came away totally blown away. Small town theatre where every seat is awesome. Probably 1976-1977 or so.

Sammy all the way! During my years as promotion manager at the Chicago House of Blues we had a Jerry Jeff Walker show and I set up an interview with him on local radio legend Steve Dahls show. He asked if I had an acoustic guitar he could borrow for the interview. I did and he used it to play "Mr. Bojangles" on the radio show.
