Milo Baughman Recliner 74

I am interested in one. You can get them new at DWR (Design within reach) for quite a sum, and there are various used ones available at the usual used furniture websites.

I have seen restored ones on Etsy for about half this one. New seems north of mid 3k and up at DWR.

Black leather seems to be the classic look. Not sure I would be into that. DWR wants 5k for a new leather one. https://www.dwr.com/living-rocking-...SkBJR8Vx6wPL3jZBo2UaAsqtEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I like the spare and classy design. Not a fan of bulky lazy boy style recliners.

We aren't buying any new furniture though until mom's cat finally dies.

nice chair....but $3k ???
not me.

It is a popular classic design my a famous MCM designer, and you are paying for that. But also, the design is good, and good for backs, etc.

I have lower back issues, and lumbar support is huge. Stressless chairs by Ekornes also are great, but also cost about that. Would be used in home office laptop work too. One for the living room, (gathering room only, not office or entertainment/screen room) and one for the home office/entertainment/music room. So will be looking for other as good options, or good deals used I think. Needs to provide the support I need, and look good. But doesn't have to be a name designer. I don't want to deal with the cheapo danish/mcm style knock off stores though.

Here is some history mixed with advertising/MCM porn on Milo Baughman, the designer. This seems to be kinda like a Ray Bans Wayfarer thing in terms of design feel, and how much extra you pay for horn rimmed sunglasses if they say Ray Ban on them. Or Vuarnet.

And I still really like the design.

Looks like it’s pretty low to the ground, which would makes it hard to get in and out of as my crappy knees get older. But it does come in black leather (at least from DWR), which doesn’t attract dog hair, unlike the couch we bought and had to cover in blankets two days after it arrived.

A good chair is worth a lot, especially if it is a place of relaxation.

People here of means have reading recliner/ottomans that are in the 5-7,000 range. It is kind of a thing to have in your house. Good ones are rosewood or other exotic wood and leather. It is where a person of depth considers the world and day's events. If you don't have one of these, or a 11th century bishropic throne, you are a redneck.

I’ll do that when I don’t have kids who would inevitably trash an expensive chair in a day. Our dining table is destroyed and we still haven’t hit the age when they don’t get bored during dinner and gouge the tables with their forks. I never understood why people buy rough tables made from slabs of reclaimed wood until I realized that they hide kid damage. It also explains why Ikea furniture is so popular with young couples—no point buying stuff that’s just going to get trashed.

My kids are now in university and the end of high school, so we are past that age, but yeah, having kids is a major impact on what one might spend on furniture. I also spent like a decade driving a mini van before moving on, same logic.

Yep to all that. We raised our kids on my grandparents' Willett (another furniture company) cherry table and dining set, and they trashed it. I can get it re-finished, and it will be just fine. But right now it is in storage, as we moved on to another table when my Mom passed that I think fits our decor better. My youngest graduated high school last year, and is currently living with us during part of a gap year, and then kids may be in and out, but not all the time. And we are re-doing things in the home for now, presuming we don't move. Which could happen, but I don't think so. And, working and officing in the home, I want to restructure this space, get rid of the old ugly sectional, get a better chair, etc. But will see if I can do that without spending 5 k on one chair. I am diligent, and pretty good at finding used stuff too. We go to Portland in a little over a month, and I can check out the chairs and furniture options in person too, before deciding. I definitely like the good design look and wish to avoid the lazy boy cup holder look. No offense to whomever might like that. Just not my bag.

PS, the one in the pic is from about 1966, and there are regularly refurbished options available. Here is another example, of one that is about $1600 shipped. But have not pulled the trigger, as I would like to sit in one first, and this guy does not take returns he says. But this color and style would be perfect if I like the chair after sitting in it. And there will be more available later, as they are all re-upholstered ones being sold at this price.

When I was a young lad, we had a chair that looked very similar to that at home. My Dad and Step-Mom bought it (and other furniture) in Norway and had it shipped to the US.

That's a great chair I absolutely love MCM stuff. I have a Stressless chair which is more just Modern I guess but it's comfy and my daily relaxer when I'm not ;aying on the sofa :embarrassed:
