Mattress Jam

We bought our mattress while we were saving up a down payment for our current house. We felt like we were rolling in money when we went mattress shopping, so we got a very expensive model. No regrets. I was surprised to learn that your legs don't HAVE to go numb while you're sleeping.

I don't have the budget to go boutique.

We decided before we moved that we were not taking our ancient queen mattress set with us, and decided to get a king. We ended up making a deal with the devil (Mattress Firm) on a "Sleepy's" brand hybrid. 4 months in, and it is still great - firm, yet comfortable as hell, and feels like the mattress is the size of a small island.

Completely different. I hate memory foam, too. Latex bounces back immediately and doesn't get hot like memory foam does. We tailored each side of our bed to our personal preferences with regards to firmness, too. Lasts pretty much forever, from what I hear.

Don’t pay sticker price. I was able to bargain quite a bit off of the last two medium-high end mattresses. It was at a chain and might have even been Mattress Firm! :embarrassed:

We bought a Temperpedic about 5 years ago. I can’t remember how much it cost, but it’s the best thing I’ve ever slept on. The first week, I hated it, but then I realized I wasn’t waking up with my body aching and I wasn’t waking up 3 or 4 times a night with one of my arms numb and tingling. I hate sleeping in anything else.

I got a Tempurpedic in 2007. I loved it. I slept so well and raved about it constantly but it made my back weak. I tweaked my back so many times while I had the Tempurpedic that I can't even put a number on it. Even though I slept so well on it I started to suspect that it was the cause of all of the back tweaks.

I switched to a traditional box spring and mattress in 2013 and I have only had one back incident since & that was likely caused by using a wild garden tiller.

Tempurpedic price in 2007 - $1700 +
Traditional box spring and mattress which saved my back in 2013 - $1100

It's funny how Tempurpedic's advertising is all about back health and so on. They feel amazing when you lay on them though... no pressure points anywhere.

I found the non-Mattress Firm version of their Reserve Firm bed. It's a Simmons Beautyrest, and instead of $1000, it's $580 on USMattress.com. It was $650 at Costco.
