Marks new "Getting Healthy" thread.

I fractured some meniscus a couple years ago and then let the flap screw up the cartilage on the end of my femur so I have that going on and might have to have a replacement at some point. But I have been holding it off. I just looked up some other stuff and you can modify some of those exercise exercises or do different sorts of things like wall sets to also work on leg strength. I am able to do lunch squats if I am careful about how I do them and normal squats to about 90 without problem.
I do wall squats for my APT. I just saw a video yesterday on how it;s supposed to help the knee, too.

Went out at daylight and paddled for a couple of hrs before the heat set in. Went around 6 miles.

I've been incorporating this 14-minute chair workout into my routine. On days I don't have softball, pickleball, etc. I use this with ten-pound dumbbells and its a quick workout on its own, or a great warmup when I'm at the gym. So far - so good. I started out with five-point dumbbells but went to ten yesterday and didn't wake up with sore arms, so it's full speed ahead.

Otherwise, I'm finally off prednisone (after over 2.5 years) as of this week and I think the weight gain has stopped. The only real negative is that a problem with neuropathy in my left arm/hand seems to be reasserting itself. It's something that showed up years ago and was traced back to degradation in the spinal chord from C5-7 and is making it really hard to stay asleep at night because I will wake up with my left arm either numb, tingling, or worse. That's my next challenge.

I cooked two pounds of dried pinto beans - we froze them into two-cup portions and left one out for tonight, which I mashed and refried with whey (from making yogurt) onions, spices and olive oil. Then I put it on some flatbread with avocado, green salsa, and melted cheese and had a cup of cole slaw (homemade) on the side.

Yeah - I don't seem to have a problem getting fiber into my diet.

I hit my goal weight of 240lbs today. It turns out that when I used to be 240 lbs a few decades ago that was with much more muscle mass. I might go another 5-10lbs down, but I've started doing body weight exercises to rebuild what muscle mass I can.

I've been feeling MUCH better all the way around but my left knee and shoulder are keeping me from realling feeling whole again.

My wife and I started Weight Watchers.
I’ve tracked my meals for 8 days straight.
I’ve stayed under budget each day except for one, and I had a ton of weekly points to cover that.
So, I’m “winning” according to the points.

I think I’ve gained weight.

I am drinking a lot more water though. So, that’s helping.

I found these great new exercise videos!

I remember watching these and doing some of the stuff when I was a little kid and my mom was doing laundry, etc. I wonder if that is a B3 Hammond or what organ that was in the second vid.

My latest eating tip learned from videos of pro bodybuilders: frozen berries taste much better than fresh berries. Because they’re actually ripe when they’re frozen. Yummy frozen berries are a great way to handle cravings for frozen junk food. One more little trick on the road from 155 to 150…

I'm down to 236 for the last week or so. My knee and hips are gradually improving and I'm still feeling better overall. I need to figure out how to best eat on gig nights that go until 2am, though. I've been trying different things but I', still running out of mental energy around midnight.

Those midnight 3rd sets and 1-2 am load outs, and the long drive home watching for roadblocks and hoping your blood alcohol is actually as low as you think it is....thats the worst part of old guy gigging.

Almonds and dark chocolate (unsweetened if you can manage it) as a snack when you start to run out of gas.
