This one really hurts. Their Sweet Oblivion album was brilliant, don't think it was matched by anyone through that whole grunge period, they were just more genuine sounding than the other bands coming out at that time IMO.

Bummer. I always thought they were so underrated. Sweet Oblivion was such a good record.

Screaming Trees was definitely some great stuff but if you're not familiar w/ his post-trees career, he has released some really incredible music, both solo & collab. Dig into his catalog and you'll find some real gems

RIP

Every interview I ever read made me think he was a cool guy. I wasn't into the Screaming Trees much (still dig some), but he was a strong force in alterative--americana type stuff and a huge evangelist for my man Jeffrey Lee Pierce.

So sad. Such a great talent. From Screaming Trees, Queens and solo stuff. I wore out Sweet Oblivion and Uncle Anesthesia in the 90s.

Had no idea he lived in Ireland

Saw an interview not too long ago and said he decided to move because he started getting some serious depression and paranoia living in LA during quarantine. He wanted to move to Europe and Ireland was one of the few places at that moment accepting US citizens.

Also he recently was in really bad shape after catching covid. In and out of a coma for a while and apparently suffered from lingering symptoms. There's speculation his death was related to that.

Interesting on both counts. I assumed he chose Ireland because it was green, moist and cold Like the Seattle area.
