Let's talk street racing and millennials

I'm 51 and have never met a person who was into street racing. I thought it was some bullshit from Grease and old movies where you raced for pink slips. I had no idea it was a thing. I guess when you grow up and live in a place where bumper to bumper traffic is basically a 24x7 thing, you can't race
well it started in California so pretty much bumper to bumper over there. i think it's mainly a west coast thing so it should hit you sometime in the future  They call it street racing but it's more like a buncha spectators circle jerking to a show of people doing donuts in intersections as far as i can tell. *edit* my guess is that it makes for good insta gramming and tik toking verses trying to video drag races

we had racing back in the day but it was always way far out on some sleepy stretch of road or a frontage road in the sticks and it was old school Grease style drag race.
i think the millinials and Zoomers*spits* grew up on too much Too fast too furious and Vice City....

There used to be a healthy drag racing scene when I was in highschool but it really only took place on these abandoned roadways/places. Otherwise it was mostly street light to streetlight with the constant threat of police

That's the way it was back then. We used to have a designated street or two in towns where people would "cruise" on friday and saturday nights and it was mainly people hanging out in parking lots on the sides of the road but only small groups here and there, kinda 'cliquish" you had the hicks or the Camero guys , etc and then streetlight to streetlight racing on occasion and there were cop cars cruising around too. then later in the night like 11 or 12 the serious ones would go to an out of the way road for grease style drag racing. It wasn't block off city streets and 'take overs". people weren't so blantant about breaking laws then. They still broke laws but it wasn't "in your face" and it was isolated here and there not mass group lawbreaking

We didn't have the power of the internet & social media to organize several hundred people to come from out of state either. That really seems to be a factor in these massive take-overs.

....and we knew if we tried something like that we'd have ever law enforcement officer with a baton at the ready to crack our skulls.

I had a thought in the shower this morning….. part of the problem is that these gatherings I’m sure have “ scene celebrities “ and that would mean they view themselves from the ego standpoint and that would include they have an instagram, Tiktock too, etc….
I don’t have time to go on a full rant right now but if we could do away with “likes” and “followers” that would be a huge step in making the world a better place…less ego driven because at the heart of it all is the basic human trait of wanting to be liked and accepted and that is all the fuel and underlayer of “likes” and “followers” ….basically a popularity contest
