Call me crazy but burnt tire and moss taint, aka scotch flavors, are inherently bad flavors. On the other hand, honey, vanilla, citrus, and oak, aka bourbon flavors are inherently delicious.
when it comes to scotch, Glenlivet is as "scotchy" as i can take. and that's pretty tame.
and a whole bunch of the bourbons are too bitey. i do like Buffalo Trace/Eagle Rare, however.
