First thought- some idiot is going to make me put carpet on them.

Second thought- that can't be to code.

I did a job once, new house, typical four square colonial, front door is in center of house, you go through door, you either immediately turn right and you are in the living room, turn left, you are in the dining room, you go straight, you go up the steps to the second floor. Side of the steps were open to the living room. The builder framed the house exactly per prints. When he went to build the steps, he found out the bottom step would be too close to front wall of the house if he built the steps to code so the front door would hit the bottom step and not open all the way. He cheated making the 13 treads 1/2" smaller. Building inspector caught it. He had to tear it all out, then have me back to put the carpet on.
