I have had this experience almost every time I present at a conference since I tend to deviate from mainstream thought in treatment for addiction. Same thing happened when I would make presentations for the Theosophical Society.

There is a MAJOR institute of higher learning here in Our Fair City that regularly hosts a Forum featuring many Very Interesting People. You should hear the bloviating.
One gentleman saw necessary to lecture a former director of the CIA about foreign policy. He would not stop talking.
And the poor moderator and speaker just have to sit there and politely listen.
