It's already a little bitty door. Much smaller and I would be able to get parts in and out.

We may build a closet around it, so there isn't the constant threat of ankle-turning.
Yeah or cordon off a square around It with a railing on three sides and make a step up after you get through the door.
Like a reverse stoop.

Not too unlike that crazy thing above, but a bigger square.

We had that problem at work. They had to raise the floor in an area about 10". Problem was it cut off several doors. One could not have a step as it was the south EMS room and a gurney had to be able to go in and out. Built a down ramp. One side was towards a wall so that was safe. On the other side they put in a railing. Of course being work, 6 months later they moved the EMS room, took out the railing and leveled the floor.
