Newsflash! KILL WHITEY!!! (Bulger)

All of the headlines say he was killed in prison, and yet all of the actual articles just say he was found dead. He was 89 years old - its not unlikely that he died of natural causes.

In any case, good riddance.

From NYT:

Two Federal Bureau of Prisons employees, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the information was not yet public, said Mr. Bulger had been beaten unrecognizable by inmates. No other details were immediately available.

Although no one is going to shed tears for murderers it is disturbing how prison inmates have enough freedom to commit acts of murder or revenge in prisons. This only happens with the assistance of prison guards. Inmates and guards have the same handicapped mentality it seems. I think prisons need to be a little less humane and do whatever it takes to control and neutralize powerful gangs that rule the prisons. Maybe a small single cell for each prisoner with a shower and treadmill and they never leave it.

i don't understand why this is the 'biggest' story of the day.
the mutherfucker was a hitman....murderer for hire.....killed a bunch of people and then talked about it.
why he wasn't killed 5 years ago is THE mystery.
there are far more important things in the news than that white trash piece of shit.

And the treadmills are hooked up to generators so the Fers can supply electricity to the grid.

I think I read somewhere that was the 4th murder at that prison in something like 90 days? Yikes.

Granted, there are folks like Whitey Bulger out there, but the bulk of people in prison are not animals. If we worked more on rehabilitation (or, in some cases, habilitation) , society would benefit. Most people want to learn from their mistakes, but they need skills to help them live the life they want.

When organized crime can perform hits in prisons there's a huge problem. I was kidding about the experimentation, but you can't have so much freedom that gangs run the prison. Alcatraz code of silence wasn't a bad idea. Give them unlimited access to books. They can read in their cell all day and get some access to exercise. I'm mostly talking about maximum security. Even the guys you're talking about that aren't animals have to keep silent about rapes or else they will be targeted for violence.

I know the thread title is a bit risque (I hope everyone gets the movie reference), but I'd like to see this thread from crossing boundaries so to speak. Some of the comments are more in keeping with the politics thread...

Let's keep it cool shall we?

He was topped by a Mafia guy from MA. Who and why are very easy: the Winter Hill Gang (Whitey's crew) were rivals to the New England mob for a long time, and Whitey was an FBI informant for years. He did that to try and take out Patriarca and his organization.

Well, Freddy Geas remembered, and decided it was his big chance to serve a little justice, and send a message.

What I don't understand is what he was doing there (he was in a wheelchair and was supposed to go to a facility that had medical provisions the likes of which weren't at the WV prison), and why he requested to be put in general population.

Definition of politics: anything I don't agree with
