Just want to say hi.

Lord. in your absence the kingdom has fallen to ruin. @Frank Prince is in the lands beyond the castle making lewd advances upon the sheep and goats. @baimun filled the moat with pink glitter. @mystixboi1 replaced the Beatles with AI-generated songs about Rockford, Illinois area fast food joint Beef-A-Roo. @smurfco ate the plums in the icebox (reported to be delicious). There was an apparition in the Howling Forest people said was Help!ImaRock, but turns out it was just a blanket placed atop a bunch of pawn shop gear @PunkKitty bought. And someone (looking at you, @Honkridge) clogged the Magic Toilet of Infinite Wishes.

Subbing a Spanish class this morning. For some reason, this semester has been brutal. I'm afraid of next year because that's our 40th anniversary and they are making a big deal about it. A VERY BIG DEAL.

If I could take a sabbatical next year would be the year to do it.

As in "out of the house', no. One is a junior in high school and the other is going to community college and working while he plans on going to UCI in the near future.
Kids moving out of the house at 18 isn't a thing anymore, really. I mean... I'm 46 and cleared 100K gross last year, but without my wife's quite similar income I'd be fucked. And that's here in New Jersey. Housing by you is even more fucked, isn't it?

Mine moved out at 18, but to be fair, he’s been in campus housing the whole time. After he graduates, he’s either living with my mom if he gets into the grad program he applied to, or he’s moving home and looking for a job.

My wife lived on campus when she was 18... Then moved back home. When we got married we actually lived in her parents' attic for a while cuz LIFE IS FUCKING EXPENSIVE.

Yeah. The little house we bought for $330k in 2008 is worth close to a million dollars now, and it really doesn't mean anything. 1 bedroom apartments here are starting at $1700/month

FWIW, our (then) 30 yo daughter only moved out when we left Cali. And she was married (although her Canadian husband wasn't allowed to work in the US for another year or so). Our (older son) had finally left for the last time in his very late 20s. I forget sometimes that my experience (left home at 18 never to return) wasn't/isn't always the norm.

However, once the kids are gone it's so liberating (and boring!).

I think the bubble is about to pop. More people are leaving California than there are coming, and there are a lot of empty appartments now, Rent is starting to fall.

Same story for me. My little 1300 sq ft. house is worth $1 million, but I can't fathom why. I paid $500K for it 11 years ago, but I used the equity of the sale of my first home I bought in 2003 for $360K for the down payment. We refied in 2020 when the rates went below 3%, and that has helped a lot when it comes to affordability.
