Just got back from voting

And the place was pretty empty. I guess we only have 1 Senate and 1 Representative to vote on so maybe that's why.

I decided this year that from now on, I will not vote for a candidate that only runs negative ads. Guess what, you are politicians, so by definition you are an asshole, so instead of telling me how much of a bigger asshole your opponent is, tell me what you plan on doing while in office.

(While I know this is kind of political, I am trying to keep actual politics out. Feel free to delete the thread if it is deemed against the rules or a shit storm starts)

As many of you are aware, I LOATHE politics in general, and political "discussion" even more. I will, however, be voting, and per what Chad said above...well, let's just say the two-party system does not work for me AT ALL - especially when ad season rolls around, and it just gets worse every election season; the IL Governor's race, especially, has been nauseating.

There will be some major unknowns getting my vote out of protest.

What bothers me are single issue candidates...you need to understand the big picture, moron, not just the one thing you care about...cop0

I hate the negative ads too, but they are ubiquitous here now. If I didn't vote for any candidate that used them, I'd only be able to vote for Libertarians or Green Party candidates like Emily "Spicybrown" Sanchez.

Some of the worst ones actually come from the super-Pacs rather than the candidates themselves, not that that is a very good excuse for them.

I have done that before, voted for people outside of the 2 party in protest. In my state they don't ever have a chance and our races are usually down to the wire so I don't do that anymore. We tend to get folks who are a bit extreme running here and I don't want my protest to harm the state more than voting for the lesser of two evils.

This election is in Colorado an all mail-in vote (I think) so I voted last week. Colorado is also a state where Independents out number either of the two big parties.

Another observation, why are there so many folks out front handing out ads? Do most people have no idea who they are voting for and just drive up to the polls and see who has the nicest flyers?

The start handing out hotwings and I'll vote for Satan.

I made sure to vote because of the people running for our local school board.

That is something that gets overlooked but could be one of the most important things on the ballot. Those folks help determine how our schools operate, which in turn determines how our children learn and how they will function as adults.

Here you cannot campaign so close to a polling place-I cannot remember the distance. Few years back there was an uproar when one of the polling helpers had a campaign button on

Main issue I want to vote on is a county-wide ban on red light cameras. My city has turned theirs off because of legal challenges and now awaiting this vote.

We voted early since it is easier and closer. I despise both parties for their various weaknesses, and that's as far as I'll go here.

My son voted for the first time but didn't know anything about the candidates so he chose the funniest names. :embarrassed:
I guess he watched Monty Python's "Election Night Special" sketch recently.

Looking at our ballot, I can guess:
Emily "Spicybrown" Sanchez
Deb Shafto
Clinton "Chip" Wells
Dan Jeffrey Spjut

around here they all run negative ads. I just vote a straight party ticket and vote down all the mileages.

When you vote, you're already voting for one of Satan's minions half the time, just not getting hot wings.

My polling place was a disorganized mess this morning.
