Question: J. Rocket "The Dude" pedal

the Marshall is 6V6's ??

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I got it. I wanted to hear a Marshall with a 6V6. The clean channels sounds great, the gain chain is modern Marshall and has far more gain than I would ever use. You shouldn't have a hard time finding one for $300. I' can't imagine this won't hold up with a drummer.

does it still have that british barky sound, or is it closer to a fender sound?

to be fair, i do appreciate your suggestion. i had thought of the Crate Classic 30 and the Delta Blues, but they also both use the EL84 and i've never been able to get a sound out of those tubes that didn't hurt my ears. lots of other people seem to be able to, but not me.
i've kind of come to the conclusion that as far as small to medium amps i can only get good tones from 6V6 and 6L6 tubes.

well, it's here. looks pretty much brand new, except it has white knobs instead of black (older version ?).
and i'm not sure why they didn't keep the white knobs, they're easier to see on stage in a dim lit bar.
i'll get to check it out after work.

also note: if any of you have The Dude (or any J. Rockett pedal) there actually IS a 9v battery clip on the inside the pedal. they don't talk about it in their description and i haven't seen anyone mention it in the reviews, but watching the video on the J. Rockett site for removing and replacing the on/off switch, when the guy gets the switch out, you can see the battery adapter in there and there is a space for a 9v battery.

just sayin'

I put a battery in mine when I take it to jams. Although I’ve bern taking my Tchula instead because of the second side for solos.

how does that work? one knob, two switches?
It’s a custom double Church of Tone. The first side is factory set at Josh Smith’s favorite setting. I leave that side on all of the time. The second side has a gain knob the starts at the first sides setting and goes up in gain from there.

that's what i figured. one side is set to a threshold and the other side adds to it. but i wasn't sure, as i've never heard of one of those before.

i'm working with it right now. so far, it sounds good, ok, but i'm not getting the tones that i heard on some of the demonstrations, and not Carlton tones.
it could be also somewhat that i'm playing in my apartment, so it's just barely louder than my tv. and Fender 40 watt 6L6's DO NOT breath at living room levels.
i'll keep at it.

Make sure you read on what the controls do, they don’t work as you think they would. The ratio and depth knobs are your friend. Ratio is basically a blend control for clean boost and gain. The depth control adds or removes mids and the level control dials in clean boost. It acts more like an amp than a pedal.

It’s needs the amp to be working a little bit too.

yea, i've watched about 10 vids on it before i got it. but i really think that trying to get "that" sound with the amp on 0.75 is not really helping.

and i'm making the mistake of comparing it to LC's youtube vids, and he's using a lot more that just that V.A. strat and a dumble.
and he's uses the living hell out of that Shobud volume pedal of his. he practically stands on his left foot for half the song.
and he's got that dumble turned up. you can't get that kind of finger response with an amp turned down.

but i'm getting somethings out of it that are decent for the volume level i can use here.
an attenuator and a 20 watt amp (Rebel) would be helpful.
but that's the next step.
