I've mentioned several times on the forum that Dua Lipa is one of my favorite current pop artists...

Ever since 2020 and her Future Nostalgia album dropping just as quarantine was starting world wide, we didn't get much in the way of new music... but I was still working in the (mostly empty) office and even had to travel for work all masked up to beef up the network infrastructure for our offices to have everyone work from home.

With her being one of the few artists with new music at the time, I listened to her music a bunch. Then when people were adapting to small gathering remote shows but couldn't tour, she did a really cool NPR Tiny Desk concert (actual lighting and stage instead of the typical Tiny Desk location) and I was impressed by how good her vocal quality matches the recorded version.

She has a new album dropping soon and she's released a couple singles (Houdini and Training Season)... but this is a really cool acoustic arrangement of the latter.

I’ve got a soft spot for good pop music. She sounds pretty good, I should dig a little deeper. I might get inspired to start hitting the club scene.

This bass line fuckin' kills me.... (like 1:50 on) so damned good!

Plus, this performance has Mario from Scary Pockets in her backup singers. :baimun:

And if you bass players want a little extra dig... Scott and Ian have a great vid on it.

Two albums that are in a similar vain to Future Nostalgia are Carly Rae Jepsen's double album from last year The Loveliest Time/The Loneliest Time. And Sigrid's album from 2022 How to Let Go.

i like her but it just doesnt seem like her voice has much range

I see it as there are the Christina Aguileras and Beyonce's of the world who sing circles around other vocalists... but they're songs other people wrote.

Then there are the Taylor Swifts and Dua Lipas of the world who are arguably more "what the song requires" in the vocal department, but they are songs that THEY wrote, and then whether it's a big choreographed concert or a sitting with a single instrument, they do not disappoint.

In a recent interview Dua Lipa showed the paper book she bought from a CVS a couple years ago and has been writing all of her songs in it. Subsequently, she's had to tape the cover and binding to keep it from falling apart.... as she wrote 97 songs for the current album. (reminds me a bit of the great Purple one from Minneapolis. )

Here's a funny exchange between Justin Timberlake and Dua Lipa about that (time stamped to 45 sec in):

To underscore how great this track is.... Chad Smith did the live drums for the track. :baimun:
