I've got the greatest guitar of them all!

Hi Jake S. That's a good point. If I weren't me I might not be so inspired by the Power Guitar concept either. Instead of a fork twisted perhapse it would be more analogous to one of those spoons with prongs on it? They seem to find niches in salad-delivery I guess. Power'd amp-in-guitars so-far seem limited to the practice, toy, and travel niches so far. But all of those give up on being playable full-size guitars (IMHO). So uniquely built but not new. Cross-over perhapse not really gereat as either a fork or a spoon. Maybe better analogy yet would be spoon-fork on opposite ends?

Perhaps this analogy works. If I were a person living alone and spending a lot of time out-doors and eating near a camp-fire out back (or like camping)... perhapse this would be my favorite utensil-set:

Now if eating were more like music (seems we'll eat just about anything)... maybe... ok so what I built is attractive to only folks like me? Well I don't play a regular gig anywhere. Thus I've favored my acoustic over my electric most of the time because of the mobility, volume, wire, and so-on issues. So LRRG at best with pent-up engineering expression... maybe as unusual as the person living in a cottege with campgrounds (hmmm nice old-camp-stuff)...

Here's a demo of the mixing of amp-in and amp-out. There is a spot or 2 where you can see where the pair together increases what one can do as compared to just a normal setup. The obvious down-side for me is having so much at once to work with gets in the way of actually doing something with it. Gotta love acoustic guitars in that way.

I just upgraded my amp from FM25DSP to FM212DSP (from 25W with a 10" to 100W with a 2 x 12"). God what a difference. I also bought a top-quality 10' cord. Note that I would never be playing so much electric stuff if it weren't for that Power Guitar. I can also admit that like the Pignose and Nomad, if I had purchased the FM212DSP prior to building the Power Guitar I might not have felt as much need/urge to make them (but am still glad I did).

As far as the transmitter, I'm surprised that the current transmitter technology is so crappy. Instead of it providing the analog-high-quality function of a Low Noise Amplifier (LNA), the FCC signal limitations prevent having full dynamic range if you can even get a clean enough signal. The guy at the guitar ctr confirmed the same (FCC rules stink for guitar-tx'ers, so most use "good" cords). I do still think the "ultimate" analog wise design is a LNA-transmitter but still it would require better than FCC allowed waveform. Perhaps several channels or a higher frequency or something...if I had a regular gig I might care enough to fix that issue.

Meanwhile yes I still like the live-string-improvement of the Power Guitar even though I have an adequate external amp. I also tried my electric guitar head-to-head with the Power Guitar. The electric has which has the benefits of a wammy bar, maple neck (I do like that), and thicker-frets. But even with the thicker frets and maple neck I do still like the feel of the Dean V-coustic. Thus I do still think I've got the greatest guitar of them all.

BTW, the guitar ctr guys were sold out of Dean V's completely. I was amazed since the last time I was there (about 2 months ago) they had lots of them (at least a dozen but prolly 2 or 3 dozen).

Getting some interesting tones out of that thing - with the remote. There's got to be some applications and I salute you and John for your innovations, but alas Guitar players are about as traditional as it comes. Might be time to move on to your next invention or just do what I did -sign up for more guitar lessons.

Cool looking pups. Thought you guys might find it interesting that my new FM212DSP amp is motivating me to keep the ML.

Thus I've updated the auctions: to
ML: INCREASE price to $1233 while also changing it to Used.
Blond: DECREASE price to $733 and indicate offers >$400 considered on the merrit of the story.

As far as playing and posting videos goes I've been playing different stuff than I had for a long time and sooner or later will feel like there's something to record. Meanwhile my hobbies are shifting toward out-doors more (except for all the summer social stuff that gets in the way of making things). Sorry if ya'all miss me, and if not oh well sorry to bother. See ya on the 10s.

Hi fretmonster,
I moved on the moment I had built the 3rd Power Guitar and posted my listings. Just here for the sake of everyone else - sharing what I've built and my satisfactions with them. Enjoying them a whole lot more now that I have a real external amp too. Lessons are in the practice of hearing-to-playing and the guitars and amp are propelling that for me nicely (obvious in the sequence of the 100+ videos on my youtube channel).

PS: I've been using the cord cause the transmitter sucks. The in-jack from the Roland isn't so great either so as far as external amp is concerned my primary obstacle to good amp'd sound remains solid wired connections. My transmitter says it has 95dB SNR but it sure doesn't give me that impression in the output. End result is my 2nd guitar sitting out in the garage is w/o amp - thus pricing to keep the ML.

The Blond just got chopped (de-tailed).

I had started playing the ML out in my garage where I have another easy chair and yet another off the garage on the porche. But the ML is bigger and clunkier than the 1st built (in this pic). So I'm not happy with it in that sense and just cut the blond going in the same direction.

By the way, I picked up a Fender 75W Hot amp for only $40 too. And playing more electric I'm even more attached than ever to the Power Guitar concept now. I was out on the porche playing last night without being too loud for the neighbors but having enough tone to make me happy. And as for tone there's nothing like having live string augmentation of tone without having to kill my ears and I do get tierd of having it too loud after a while. So yea I do still got the greatest guitarS of them all!

BTW, they've improved my rytyem in playing more than anything. Been noticing I may have some new songs in me for another blast of 50 or so originals on my youtube channel. Stay tuned.

Didn't the Peavey T-series guitars have amp cases as well?

I don't know. For me the case isn't portable enough - but could be excellently done (above is just OK imho). I think the Power Guitar shows similarly why it would be worth it - to get the right guitars into the right hands at the right times.

As just 1 example, we had house-company yesterday - the same morning I cut the tails from the blond. Funny I ended up playing it on the back porch most of the day - seems that happens when the right guitar is around at the right time. Today looks like another nice day. The blond is still open on it's bottom till I figure out what else I want to add into it. I did re-mount the tail-parts for the bottom-horn-part and top-dial-guard. I have that fender micro amp and the piezo-setup ready for possibly including that head-mic (still crafting and re-raised prices for a while).

If I were considering the case approach I think more power maybe fairly easy... Found an old Fender Hot amp which is very small for something with 75W. That would be a good case-starter if someone were building a case-amp. Nice thing about the case-amp-idea is if it were closed when playing you'd have a fairly good size speaker box which would give you lower distortion than an open-backed amp.

I'm planning to similarly close the backs to my FM212DSP and the 75W HOT amps that I have since my home-use doesn't need the high-power as much as I do enjoy the large-speakers and selectable effects. I can tell the "model" quality is better in the FM212DSP than the Rolland Micro-Cube by playing the line out into the FM212DSP clean - better amp. Anyway, hope others are getting encouraged in their projects. By the way I did take my old Carlos 24QK out to the porch for discussion sake yesterday. While a great acoustic it wasn't worth playing yesterday other than demonstrating how much better the Power Guitars are. Also I can notice an improvement to the FM212DSP or 75W HOT by semi-closing their backs - going all the way with wood-closure soon.

Blond Volume and Tone Control

V and T controls are a good start. Still not as motivated to add in the Piezo. I could just seal the bottom. It is rather interesting the distortion effects from open vs closed that I don't think most are aware of. The theory is basically that the sealed cabinate prevents out-of-phase waves from the speaker back from merging with the face-waves and causing a muddy sound sensation. Once you learn to recognize the effect it is the primary thing to address - as I now see with my big amps too. Anyway, here's a pic of the blond with the V&T:
