Kick Henry Jackassowski
I got a package from Ukraine today. My Crab Amplification Model T arrived! It’s got great big ballsy tone. Three of the five inputs are functional; normal is clean and dark, brite is crunchy and brite, and jumpered is kind of sludgy with some treble. It sounds great with a rat or a muff. The preamp can’t handle the Hizumitas, it gets farty and bassy but other amps can also have that problem. (I am starting to wonder if I just have a bad Hizumitas.) Quality wise this thing is awesome for what I paid ($550+$180 postage+$72 duties). Crab uses toroidal transformers instead of the transformers typically found in guitar amps. I have read that these transformers can pick up noise from instruments when the instrument gets too close. I only notice hum when the guitar is within about two feet of the amp, so it’s a non-issue if you don’t play right next to your amp. I’ll experiment with some other amps on simultaneously to see if it picks anything up from them. These transformers are light!. I can pick this up with one hand and carry it around like it’s a Tiny Terror. It does get loud enough that my neighbors will hate it but I haven’t cranked it for the sake of my earballs.
And, of course, the best part of a custom amp is being able to pick cool tolex!
