Is a Kemper Morally ok with you?

I think the best argument I've heard for them is from custom amp builder Dr. Z himself....

https://www.drzamps-zgear.com/store/c8/DR._Z_Kemper_Profiles.html

He sees it as another tool to get your real amp tones out on stage, and has actually seen demand for his amps go UP from people liking the profiles and then wanting the real deal for the studio.

Yep.
Also a lot of touring acts will now bring a couple of Kempers instead of risking their expensive boutique amps.
Needless to say there's a hell of a lot less maintenance involved that way.

Fwiw I will always buy the proper good profiles when I need a certain amp tone.

And let's be honest, most people will always prefer the real tube amp in a room thing.

Yes, I am referring to the physical sound (tone?) of the amp. Sound trademarks exist but I don’t think they are easy to get - Harley Davidson was probably the most high-profile one. HD attempted to trademark the sound of its motorcycles but was unsuccessful.
The sound trash.

The entire guitar industry is driven by immitation, cloning, copying, borrowing, and stealing. From the music itself down to the instruments, effects, and amps. Not saying that justifies anything but let’s not pretend this is a unique phenomenon limited to amp modeling or to even just kemper.

I look at the Kemper as being another tool to make my life easier. If I had a need for one, it probably wouldn't replace my "real" amps how I currently use them for most gigs but I'd buy one if I had to travel a lot or play in situations where the volume/monitoring levels were a serious concern or if I were doing a lot of demo work where amps are less practical.

Will people misuse them? Of course. People are shitty. But I think for most folks ready to slam down a few grand it's more of a practical convenience.

It's not something I'd worry about because there is no way I'd ever buy a Kemper or any other modeling amp. I'm not buying an amp with that much going on.

What about being able to fit your amp and ALL THESE EFFECTS in something the size of a lunch box? :helper:

EFFECTS
The PROFILER offers a selection of some the finest effects in the world. As a company, KEMPER is also responsible for creating the ACCESS™ VIRUS™, one of the most successful synthesizers of all time - there can be little doubt that the ACCESS VIRUS owes some of its success to the highly regarded inbuilt effects. Nearly 20 years of experience allows us to find the essence of both classic and new effects and equip them with well-conceived parameter sets. We won't overwhelm you with dozens of ineffective controls per effect algorithm - everything has a clear, intuitive and musical purpose.

Along with the standard effects, you will find algorithms rarely seen in a guitar processor - these include the Frequency Shifter, the Formant Shifter for our pitch shifter effects, an absolutely authentic rotary speaker, and even a beat scanner that allows you to control the tempo of time-based effects, such as delays, just by the rhythm of your your playing.

DELAY
Without doubt, the delay effect types are some of the most advanced and comprehensive effects collections in the PROFILER. However, the approach we have taken might be a bit different from what you've seen before. You will not find a dedicated reverse delay, tape delay or ducking delay, as we realized there is no sense in splitting such crucial features into separate delay types. Instead, we have equipped every single delay type with most of these features. Why not have a dual reverse delay? Or a serial delay with analog tape character? Or a melody delay with ducking? All of these are possible with the delays in the PROFILER.

Dual Delay
Two Tap Delay
Serial Two Tap Delay
Rhythm Delay
Quad Delay
PITCH SHIFTER DELAY
The pitch shifter delays are powerful combinations of the delay types with one of four different pitch shifter types.
Crystal Delay: The Crystal Delay is a reverse delay in which the pitched notes are altered by playing back the delayed signal faster or slower. The crystal is placed in the feedback loop of the delay, creating a pitch helix with every repetition.
Chromatic Delays: The chromatic pitch shifter is positioned at the delay input and can be played polyphonically (chords).
Harmonic Delays: The harmonic pitch shifter is positioned at the delay input and is intended to be fed with single notes only. The pitch is set in musical intervals and will follow the selected key.
Loop Pitch Delay: This pitch shifter also works chromatically but is positioned in the feedback loop of the delay, resulting in a pitch helix or spiral with every repetition.

REVERB
The reverb offers studio-quality algorithms and works closely with the delay effect.
Brought over from the ACCESS VIRUS synthesizer, our delay and reverb provide an outstanding sound quality. They are also very unique in that they perform a full spillover when you change to a new sound. This means that both the delay and reverb will decay as per the previous sound and unchanged settings, while you play a new rig with all new settings.

Lead Booster Tunable peak filter, emphasizes specific frequencies
Pure Booster Boosting or attenuating without coloring the sound
Wah Pedal Booster
PITCH SHIFTER
One of the most advanced pitch shifter algorithms in the industry. It shifts single notes as well as complex chords with unsurpassed quality. The Pedal Vinyl Stop effect drives the pitch of your guitar continuously down to zero and silence via an expression pedal. The PROFILER introduces a new technique to the guitar world, called "Formant Shift" - this maintains the natural sound of pitched notes, even at large pitch intervals.

MODULATION
The chorus effects span from the faithful recreation of the bucket-brigade chorus sound of the 70's to the crystal clear 80's multi-chorus, and the characteristic micro pitch effect, based on our pitch shifter algorithm. The Rotary Speaker effect, in combination with a PROFILE of a real rotary speaker, is indistinguishable from the original.

Vintage Chorus Inspired by the Chorus Ensemble

PHASER AND FLANGER
While the Flanger is based on a warm-sounding emulation of a bucket-brigade circuit, the Phaser allows very complex modulations by using up to twelve phaser stages. The distance between the peaks and notches of the Phaser can be controlled by the unique "Spread" parameter.
The modulation rate of the Phaser and Flanger can be linked to the song tempo.

Phaser Up to 12 filter stages for each stereo side

WAH
The wah effects are a collection of different filter and lo-fi effects, have in common that they are automatically linked to your wah expression pedal without further hassle. Control the various colors with your pedal or alternatively by the dynamics of your guitar using the Touch Wah function. Each wah effect features an optional auto-off function that triggers as soon as you stop moving the wah pedal. You will find a number of preset wah effects that simulate your favorite wah pedals:

Wah Wah The classic
Wah Low Pass DJ-like wah effects

COMPRESSOR AND NOISE GATE
The compressor features the full compression bandwidth of well-known compressor pedals, but without further coloring the signal. Our unique "Squash" parameter controls the sponginess of the compression.
The noise gates are not an alternative to the main noise gate, but a complement, especially for expertly shaped metal palm-mutes.

Compressor
Noise Gate 2:1 Soft expander, expansion ratio of 2:1
Noise Gate 4:1 More aggressive expander, expansion ratio of 4:1
EQUALIZERS
A set of parametric equalizers as well as a graphic EQ helps to shape your signature sound. As with most effects, they can be placed before or after the amplifier.

Graphic Equalizer 8-band, octave equalizer, with fixed frequency bands
Studio Equalizer 4-band parametric equalizer, adjustable frequency/ bandwidth/ Q-factor
Metal Equalizer inspired by the equalizer of the Boss Metal-Zone
Stereo Widener Creates a subtle stereo effect by using equalisation
LOOP
To connect external gear, the PROFILER offers a hardware effects loop on the rear side of the amp. You can apply the hardware effect loop in any of the effect modules A-DLY.

Loop Mono
Loop Stereo
Loop Distortion

Don't you know me? If it has a menu or the ability to hook up to a computer I'm out.

For as much as I love effects, my rig is pretty simple, a phaser, a dirt ,a delay and a reverb. I don't want or need 50 of each.

want to edit or change an effect? hold down the effect's button and a 1 to 6 page menu of controls, mostly linked to physical knobs shows up. simpler than line6 stuff AND there are undo/redo and copy/paste buttons.

it's a really nice interface they created, mostly intuitive and plain to read. and the editor is coming!

6 pages sounds like a nightmare. That said, I respect Chad's desire to have no pages, and just have labeled knobs.

I’m sure it great, it’s just not for me. I don’t want or need anything like that. Give me a good clean tube amp, a dirt pedal and a delay and I’m good. If I’m greedy, I’ll take a Reverb and a phaser. The Kemper would be so overkill for me, plus I know I’d be frustrated and ready to put it on Reverb in 15 minutes.

A page has maybe 4 or 5 parameters to edit. Most fx have 1 or 2 pages.

Looking forward to @Tiltsta ‘s impressions

I've used pages on the BOSS GT-1 and the ZOOM MS70CDR. There's 3 parameters per page and I've seen up to 3 pages. I don't necessarily have a problem with pages, but some people are WYSIWYG, and there's nothing wrong with that either.

Morally, I can’t get past the look of the kemper. Maybe if all those buttons and knobs were on the back with just a few key knobs on the the front such as volume, gain, and tone I’d be good. It looks like a PA head. I’m not the kemper target. I have my sound that I really dig and shoehorn it in no matter what situation I’m in :)

I was at a real studio and they had some amps, and they also had a Kemper, and when we decided the guitars were a bit samey we grabbed a real Rickenbacker and called up a Kemper vox, and it was pretty great.

The downside is that Kemper is built to steal souls and after a while it isn't satisfied with only amplifier souls, if you know what I mean. But you can generally solve that with a ritual cleansing fire and there are plenty more guitarists, after all.

Yeah, I’m just getting comfortable with pedals. They look like trouble to me, too many options.

Actually I think it is more akin to astronauts using flight simulators vs real flights. There is a time and place for each but the simulator allows varieties of conditions and environments that are not generally available at the drop of the hat in the real world. Valuable results are gained from both.

As the pilot, the real deal will create a rush that is beyond compare, but again timing, expense, setup, and staging.

For many road dogs and studio hounds, the Kemper is often the right tool for the right times.
