IMO Tim Pierce is the baddest, most under-rated, guitarist on earth.

Shit. This mother fucker is soooooo goddamned tasty.

It's why his guitar playing is scattered over hundreds and hundreds of hits you hear every single day.... Bon Jovi's Runaway and Please Come Home for Christmas, Goo Goo Dolls Iris, Rick Springfield, and soooo many more. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Pierce_discography

But just listen to this playing over a simple backing track... DRIPPING with tasty licks and sick double stops... he's like a gormet chef. :embarrassed:

Also like to mention that he's a master of setting his tone right on the edge of breakup, so he can change gain and volume with slight alterations of the pick attack.

Between high gain tones and modelling... that is completely LOST on 90% of the modern guitarists out there. Whenever I hear gear demos (or attempts to debunk tonewood arguments) and they're using compressed gain sounds like that, it's so squished to make it easier for sloppy players to sound consistent, but eliminates that sweet spot where amazing guitarists thrive.

I seriously think that “millennial music” or whatever you want to call it is so compressed, rhythmic focused, and avoids complex harmonies and bends because so much of their musical upbringing has been video games, mp3’s, and earbuds.

It’s painfully evident to me when my wife and daughters voice-to-text on an apple watch or watch a movie using the tiny speakers on the tv. Those tiny upper mid speakers are like tiny hammers and screwdrivers in my ears. I always swtich the music to a portable line array or soundbar to fill out the highs and lows that are otherwise missing.

One of my all time favorite pop-rock records is Toy Matinee (their only album). Tim was part of that and did all the lead work on the album, and there are some amazing tones and licks on every track on that record.

The first guy on the video, Corey Congilio, played the f**k out of his solo then explained what he did including the theory behind it. Also had some sweet JM vibrato work.

that catch phrase was like 10 years ago bro so with that in mind means yer kinda old now.....basically a boomer yourself :cop:

says arch boomer. Why don’t you post more 10 year old Metallica rehearsal videos?

Yeah… I just added him to my youtube queue to follow. I figure if he rolls with Pierce and Shull, he’s prob a bad mutha-shut-yo-mouth. :baimun:

I would highly recommend Tim's solo instrumental album, Guitarland. It is chock-full of all the things you are speaking of, with some great feeling composition.
