Achtung! I think we need a refresher on the forum rules....

The problem with forum rules is that not everyone will like all the rules. Personally, I feel the rules here make this such a nice place to hang out. Even though I am not wild about this rule:

I remember jazz music sometimes being called 'long haired' music. So jazz musicians have to use the back door too?

Very good point. Sometimes folks are sensitive about certain issues, and it is easy to push them over their limit, which then leads to escalation. I can get along with not discussing religion and politics, as long as I can talk about Luna guitars. :embarrassed:

I think this complaint was specifically about a parody thread today. Although it is common sense to most of us it was clearly meant as a joke and it wasn't offensive to anyone, it still lead to a complaint. I am not naming names, but by my experience some people are clearly easily offended, even by the mildest jokes. We are all here to have fun, but simply banning topics because some people are easily offended/have no sense of humour, is a bit harsh. I remember a particular case where I personally poked a bit of harmless fun at our American brothers. Should we then ban all inter-continental banter because 1 individual didn't take the whole thing in context?

I agree that this may not be the place for political and religious discussion or any offensive material for that matter, and I do not object to banning any such threads, but surely anyone can distinguish between a joke and a serious topic?

I agree it's about common sense

Here's the deal. The culture has decreed certain groups "protected" and you're automatically a bigot if you happen to disagree with them. That's an over reaction to many years of abuse and discrimination.
I'm very much a live and let live kinda person but it has gone way beyond that into a "Let's turn the table" scenario, which is just as wrong.
People get sensitive over abuse heaped upon their culture and it seems as though it's been open season on more traditional groups. Bashing religions and races is wrong. Period.
I don't engage in it and it has no place in civil society.

And if you think I have no sense of humor, you clearly haven't read many of my posts.

Did I miss something good again?

Anyhow..this is Mark's house so respecting his rules are just common courtesy. If I inadvertently offended someone, feel free to let me know directly.

Screw this. Every one of my thread titles will now start with a religious word, expletive, and political position.

Like Holy Fucking Shit.

Where did the world go down this fucked up tunnel to political correctness? Once upon a time we didn't give a shit about whether someone talked crap about someone's religion, politics, ethnicity, etc. We just blew it off or said "fuck off"! Now everyone's a goddamn pansy ass! Oh my, I must have offended someone. I must be punished for my sins. Forgive me father!
