Ultimately, they are going into a $1200 guitar. Even the Antiquities are probably overkill but I love the Strat pickups (both types) that I've had so I'd like to try these.

If a set of pricey pickups make a good affordable guitar an excellent affordable guitar, I really can't see anything wrong with that. I mean people install posh pickups in entry-level Squiers with great results. With some tweaks and maybe a bit of fret polishing DIY'ers often end up with a terrific workhorse that cost them a lot less than a vanilla MIM.
