How long will Dry Ice last?

Going camping next weekend and I want to bring some food but think dry ice will be my best option.

So will it last for 3 days? Also, where do you get the stuff?

I've never tried dry ice, but for longish camping trips I've always taken one of these:

Fill it about 90% full and then freeze it. It'll take a few days to freeze solid, and it will take up a lot of space, but in a decent cooler, that will last about a week. Plus you'll have some frosty cold water to drink as it melts.

Pro Tip - make sure the thing fits into the cooler before you freeze it.

It lasts based on how much air (moisture) it comes in contact with.

If you put food in a cooler with some dry ice, it will last for days and days.

If you're opening the cooler once or twice and hour continuously, it may only last 1 day.

If you touch it with your bare hands, it can burn your hands because it's so cold.... but if you drop a chunk in water, it will make the water bubble and smoke (that's how they did the Creepy Cauldron special effect).

We've either frozen milk jugs full of water, or used a couple of the blue ice things, depending on the size of the cooler. A couple of milk jugs should keep stuff cold for at least 3 days, if I remember correctly. . .

Gas or welding supply places have it, some grocery stores and ice cream places sell it. Just call around.
