How Did You and Your Partner Choose Which Side of the Bed You Sleep On?

blah, blah, blah...
I don't remember. It's going on 4 decades.

Have you ever switched? I asked my wife and she just looked at me with a strange face.

The reason I asked is that lately I've been flipping 180 degrees when I have trouble sleeping and I've been sleeping better in that direction. I'm not sure why.

At this age staying on "my side" keeps me closer to the bathroom.

I honestly have no idea how we chose, but 27 years later, I absolutely have to sleep on the right.

Do you keep the same side in hotels?

I'm not sure I care because on trips I've taken the "breezy" side of the bed with no issue.

In contrast, my wife switched two drawers in our dresser 20 years ago and I STILL have to think about it to get it right.

I've always let her pick because its never been a big deal to me.
Unless we're somewhere where one side is against the wall, then of course, she gets the open side and Im trapped, lol.
Last 15 yrs in this house she claimed the direct line to the bathroom, which if you're lying down is on the right.

My wife is far more likely to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom... I sleep like I'm in a coma until something brings me back to life. At home or whenever we stay in a hotel, I'm automatically on the side of the bed that's further from the bathroom.

Because of this, the far side of the bed has the little ottoman that helps our elderly cat hop down in a halfway step instead of THUD from the top of the tall bed to the hardwood floor.

There’s a series of elaborate rules and considerations I was not privy to and to this day do not understand. I’ve also been told there is a bothersome pea underneath the 19 mattresses we sleep on.

She’s a light sleeper and I could snooze through Armageddon so I don’t think about it much

Huh, don't remember, at the beginning we were still sleeping on the same side of the bed :quag:

Now she's on port, I'm on starboard. Yuge bed. Room for all the cats.

In my case there was no choice. I was told.
This. I'm not sure why the sides were chosen as they are but I believe she wants to be closer to the bathroom in general though I'm the one that gets up in the middle of night and also I get up much earlier than she does. My rationale is that when at a hotel she choses the side nearer the bathroom even though, depending on the room configuration, it could be the left or the right side
