Hot or not? - Hamer Studio USA

Hot. I've been playing Hamers for years, so maybe I'm just used to the control layout, but I find it very ergonomic.
They made plenty of these with standard tune-o-matic stop tail set-ups as well.

Love everything but the colour. I have owned guitars in the past with the wrap around style tail piece and loved them. IMO the additional adjustments on that particular bridge are unnecessary but can't hurt to have.
All in all, would.

The bridge can be thrown in a box while a better replacement takes its place.
The zebra neck pickup and all black bridge pickup is a strange miss-match. Otherwise, I like it.

Pretty sure those are original Pickups. Hamer went through a period with uncovered pickups in that configuration with one zebra and one plain. That's a 96 so it was made in the old Chicago shop. I guess I like the double cut desgn as I have two old Chicago Hamers (an HB Special and a Mirage II) but I have a tune-o-matic and a Wilkinson trem bridge on mine. Really fine guitars that are on par with a good Gibson IMO. Gibson players should expect a little tighter spacing at the nut than they are accustomed to (epiphone spacing). I put what I consider better nuts on mine, but even in their stock form, these guitars perform extremely well and have great resonance. They have nitro finishes like Gibson but the necks don't get sticky like my Gibson has. My Mirage II has developed a little Hameritis along the top of the neck (bass side) spanning about two frets. Don't really notice it when I play but I've got to admit I'm not too happy with it and a possible drawback for buyers.

I'd love to give that a try. I've never picked up a Hamer (at least a non-"slammer" one) and I'd sure love to someday. Also, I've always had a weak spot for doublecuts, so that one works on all levels. If it had been a goldtop, I might have come....
