Hope those of you in this Heat are staying safe and Hydrated...

I work outside a lot of times in South Louisiana. You get used to it and you don’t. Lots of water, bananas (potassium), and pickles (salt)

103 today,106 tomorrow.
I will be going on a long motorcycle ride in the desert tomorrow.

Lovely. I got in from working on the deck yesterday evening about 6:30pm. I noticed it felt warm and stuffy, but no one else was complaining, so I figured it was just some lingering effects of the heat. I looked at the thermostat and the actual temperature was 80. At first, I thought the electric company had turn off my air (I let them put a gizmo on my system by which they can remotely shut it down for up to 20 minutes to help with peak loads). Further investigation showed that the system was running, but just not putting out cold air (cool at best).

I hope I can get them out soon today. The system isn't even two years old yet. I suspect work from home is going to suck today.

I'd kill for 80 inside :embarrassed: but I use swamp cooler because about 5 years ago the AC unit was doing like yours and at that time I was paying like 200 a month to keep the house at 82 degrees (inefficient old house). That kinda started after the landlord had the roof done and the guys just kinda moved it so I think the probably loosened a line accidently and it lost freon.
So I switched to just strictly running the evap cooler and now my biggest bill has only been 89 dollars but It will be about 84 on average in the afternoons and sometimes as high as 91 INSIDE when it's up around 110 outside.
This morning though since it;'s still dry and we got down to 74 last night it was 70 inside the house. Once the humidity rises just a bit the evap will only get me to 79 overnight and daytimes will be 82 to 87 inside.

my MO is to wear lightweight shorts, no socks, t0shirt run as many fans as I can and now in the evening (afternoons too on weekends) is run the protable indoor evap which get's me down to about 82 at midnight :embarrassed:

I took monday and tuesday off next week to get a 4 day weekend.... I have a wedding on Saturday, but was really hoping to have three straight days to make some more progress on my Guitar Workshop in the back yard... at least get the roof and some temporary siding up. At that point, I'll be able to run AC to keep the second floor cool... but...

Sun.... 82. - Excellent.

Mon... 92. - Um, Yuck, but I'll pace myself.

Tues..... 99. That's air temp.... before humidity.... great googly moogly.... I might need to start at 6 am and take a break at 11... maybe pick back up in the late afternoon?

I'd rather it be 105 with 98% humidity than in the 40s. I hate cold.

I accept the fact that when there’s snow on the ground and it’s 15 degrees, Im not doing any outside work, and need to find inside projects….

…. and there’s a point where blazing heat of the summer, and hopefully all the landscaping is done because I’m going to stay in the AC and drink some beer.

This year went from frozen tundra to rain to WTF in like 3 weeks. I got half of the stones and landscaping done, have the roof off the workshop and the framing half done for the second floor, and it’s difficult to do more than two hours of physical labor without every inch of clothing being soaking wet, and getting light headed.

At this rate, I’ll be getting the outside finished about time for the leaves to change, hail, and then icestorm… all In a 72 hour window. :embarrassed:

I prefer warm weather too. Thing is at 40 degrees I can put on clothes that keep me comfortable at that temp. Your options are more limited and generally less effective on the flip side. But everyone is different...gimme moderately warm weather with out humidity and I'm perfectly happy.

this has always been my take too - I can always put on more clothing to deal with cold, but there's a hard limit on how much one can take off to deal with heat. (also I have to give an obligatory polite upper midwestern chuckle at 40 degrees being "cold")

I think adaptation plays a significant role too; both physical and mental - the first couple weeks of real winter weather always leave me thinking "oh shit, it's so cold and it's only the beginning", but then you get used to it and it's not really that much a big deal anymore; same holds for heat (you still have to respect it and dress/prepare accordingly, but it becomes just same old same old).

in defense of Lerxst thought it is a moist 40 constantly though....like cold rain verses freezing snow. I could be wrong cuz it's dry here and what do I know :embarrassed: but it seems like cold rain would be more difficult than real cold snow (at least just body exposure and not driving in it or anything)

Totally. I would always get laugh when my family from down south come up to visit in Philadelphia during the late spring or early fall dressed for the depths of winter. "Oh my, it's soooo cold!" all the time

Course on the flip side, we'd roll into their places in Jan/Feb and throw our winter jackets in the corner for Ts and shorts while they'd be looking for a jacket to take the chill off.

wet cold is pretty bad, I think mostly because it's harder to dress for than dry cold. I think it depends on context too - if it's been consistently in the teens and 20s and suddenly goes up to the 40s and rains it feels like balmy springtime, but if it's been in the 60s and drops to the 40s and rains it feels nasty and raw and cold

I'm touched that you recognize my bonifides on all things weather, outside of Az.

well Im not gonna question your input when it comes to wet weather say mid 30's to mid 60's seeing how you live in Portland .

sorry guys...I can't help myself :embarrassed:

these were both taken just now and the first os for Theodore since he likes accuweather....see we're at a super dry 6% humidity right now but real feel of 112 so you can imagine what 40 percent does here at these temps...also only 12:30 so we have like 5 more hours of heating and winds are suppossed to go to 20 so that means the reverse of windchill....it is a heatburn like standing over yer car engine with the radiator fan blowing on you....I haven't even broke a sweat today and i only drank a quart of water so far :cop:
