HC is angry today, I'm going to hide in here for a while...

I'm not a big fan of when they mod those amps, but if its been recently put back to stock then its probably in better shape than something thats all original...

He noted that the output transformers are still original, and that apparently is important to the vintage tone of the amp. I know very little about vintage amps, so I'm taking his word for it. Some pics:

Looks all "right" to my untrained eye. If you have to change a transformer you are changing the character of the amp, though...

Not worth $450? That's the asking price.

Oh yeah..I got mine for $350 in 1994...your deal (if it sounds good to you) is really good....

Yeah, I've been watching some on eBay and they range between $350 and $600+ depending on year/condition.

The only reason he's selling it for that much is that he spent $400 on the head and a couple hundred to reverse the mods made to it. I'm definitely picking it up, he said he'd hold onto it for me so I just gotta meet up with him sometime next week. I'll post a review once I get my hands on it and play around with it some.

Cool!

AOK

I bought it in July of '07. R-8 Lemonburst Custom Shop VOS. smi I hear talk of Gibson and QC problems, but man, I can't see it in this one. It's perfect. Maybe at a different price point there are some QC issues idn_smilie I had been saying for 25 years that I wanted to buy a Les Paul, so I splurged a bit. smi

Thats beautiful!

Mine's not nearly as pretty:

It sounds incredible but it was a "find"...I played a ton of other LP's that day that sounded terrible and this one was too good to pass up, even though I wasn't actually shopping for a guitar that day.

The QC issues with this guitar were a non-existent factory setup (not a big deal), poor fret dressing and the only real issue is that the finish is starting to come apart. It does suck to buy a new guitar and then spend nearly $200 having it set up and repaired, though...

Mine isn't nearly as pretty either, but it plays great and sounds great, and I got a decent deal on it (used), so I'm not complaining too much.

Nice LPs guys. I cant imagine ever paying that much for a guitar but I've always loved LPs. Closest I ever had was an Epi embarrased0

Thanks!

I think they are overpriced (especially now) but mine was worth it, warts and all. I did get a screaming deal at $1595 when the street price was $2000, though.....

My main, and most expensive guitar was less than half of that. Seriously, 1600 bucks for an LP. It's just insane to me. Completely insane. I would take one in a heartbeat. Like I said, I love 'em. I just can never imagine paying that much for a guitar. I will never understand WHY. WHY are they SO expensive? OK, they're well-built. I understand. Set neck. OK, little more work maybe. Cool. But for a standard to be 1600 bucks? Without even a nice flame top? I just dont understand one tiny bit how it can come anywhere near that price.

They should go to jail for selling it to you at that price, no matter how sweet I think your guitar is.

For me it (and the Suhrs) were justifiable because I play for a living....they were depreciated on my taxes just like any tool so they've paid for themselves both with money earned on gigs and the write off.

Will I be buying any more guitars in that price range for a while? Nope...can't justify it anymore unless I start gigging again and even then there isn't anything I actually need unless I had to have a back up Telecaster and then I would go Warmoth.

The thing that kills me are my adult students who own 3-4 guitars in this price range and can barely play facepalm0

Hey man, if youve got the jing to drop on a guitar, rock on. Im not saying nobody should be able to spend it on one, and I am not criticizing anyone who buys an LP. I myself just cant imagine doing it. And I hate Gibson for making them so darn expensive that I will realistically probably never be able to own a real LP. COULD I? Sure. WILL I is a completely different story. Like I said, 1600 is just insane to me for a guitar. Heck, my half stack didnt even cost that.

HOWEVER, if I ever got rich I would own quite a few.

They'll be on the used market soon enough anyway, then somebody that can actually use them might get a deal.
