Any new and better news?

Not really...she's still on the ventilator, her kidneys aren't functioning, the incision is still draining...4 more hours of dialysis removed another 4 liters of fluid...

The thing is, though, her heart, the reason this all started, is beating strong and steady, blissfully unaware of all the other commotion going on around it...

The doctors are pleased with her progress, claiming the the numbers look good, and remain hopeful...

To put it into perspective that's 8.8 pounds of fluid removed in a 3-4 hour window. That extra fluid puts a strain on the heart and when the body runs out of tissue to deposit the fluid into it can back up into the lungs. I've seen a lot of kidney failure in heart surgery/MI patients and hopefully she will regain kidney function. My dad lost function for a year but it eventually came back. Good luck to you guys going forward. If you have any questions about dialysis in general send me a PM.

Edit: Healthcare workers are notoriously horrible at breaking things down into information that can be understood by the general public. My experience has been that nephrologists and most doctors are even worse.

More of the same...

They say she 's improving, but we can't see it...all we can se is our mother helpless with a million tubes, wires, and machines hooked inter her...

I've come to the conclusion that it's probably easier to see her die than to watch her suffer...

I know it's hard to see that, but keep the faith! If the doctors are saying things are looking up, I would take it as a good sign.

I understand your feelings, David. For those who may not, it is hard to understand until you are in this situation.
However, we need to give her the very best chance of getting through this so she can continue to live a healthy and happy life. It sounds like everything is going the right direction.
