Guitars you are/were completely blown away by....

Let's post pics about guitars that we hoped would be great, but when we got them, they just blew us away.

I got this Ibanez AZTQM a few weeks back. It blows my mind each time I play it! I've owned a ton of Ibanez guitars including Jem's, UV's, countless Prestige and Premium models, but this guitar absolutely takes the cake.

I had the AZ Premium in espressoburst. It was great, but this spoke to me more. I bought this without playing, but I have zero regrets. Fit and finish is amazing!!! It has so many versatile tones and the play-ability is effortless.

While the Jem's and Prestige models were great, this is just on a whole new level. It's like a grown up version of Ibanez.

What about you?

Since I started building them I usually have a pretty good sense of what I'm going to get even before a guitar is put together...

...but with this one I got much more than I ever envisioned when I was planning it...

This guitar consistently blows me away every time I play it, and has pretty much become my #1...it never goes back in the case, it's always on the stand where I can grab it any time...

I want to hear those pickups.

Well, the J-45 gave me just what I expected, and I love it. This guitar, however did blow me away:

The Epiphone AJ-45 ME doen't sound or play like the Gibson, but it has a very full, resonant sound, especially in open D tuning. The paint job did not have a negative effect on the sound. It is just as beautiful and resonant looking like this:

I've posted this silly thing before, but I'm still totally smitten, and haven't picked up any other guitar (bass doesn't count) since getting it (already putting some nice glossing on the dumb matte finish too). Reallllllly close to breaking down and getting a 6-string from them as well

My guitars are currently on another continent, but my go-to example of this is my 50s Road Worn Telecaster. Not crazy about “road worn”, but after playing a few dozen telecasters that were more expensive and that didn’t have half the magic, it became pretty clear that it was a keeper.

Gibson SGs. I really regret selling two of mine, but I’ll never give up the great one.

When I saved up for my Anderson in 2004 and waited 4 months I made a point of trying to contain my expectations. I couldn't have prepared myself for how perfect it was (still is).

There's been a huge general improvement in guitars since then and boutique builders and assemblers seem to be everywhere making great ones, but this is still the best one I've played (for me), including some other Andersons.

My two kit builds are all around awesome playing and sounding instruments. My Yamaha LD10 I bought in 92 on layaway, I knew I was buying the best guitar in that store. What I didn't know is that all these years later I would still not have found its equal. I must have gotten a fluke guitar.
