GRRRRRRR

learn this now, as it carries over to everything else in life:

there are no quick fixes. anything worth doing is hard and takes time.

betweent the cube and the dirt pedals, you've got enough distortion to choke a horse. focus on playing the thing and the sound you're looking for will come out if you put in enough time.

Would one of those Michael Schenker pickups sold my Dean Guitars give you that Schenker tone? Of course not completely, but would it help sound like it a little bit?

You're not going to sound like ANYONE, even if you have their EXACT equipment, if you dont have their chops down, which IMO is next to impossible regardless of skill level. You can play the same notes at the same speed, but every player, especially the great ones, have a unique flavor to their technique. I have only ever heard a handful of people convincingly sound like a well known player.

I don't want to sound excactly like him because I want to create a unique sound. At the same time, I want to sound slightly like him. He just has such a sweet tone in songs like Armed and Ready and Are you ready to rock.

Work on technique, then. Its easy to focus on gear, but it wont help nearly as much as you think it will. Work on how you play.

Half cocked wah. A metal muff does the half cocked wah sound pretty well (with the dist turned way way down) if you're pushing an amp with a little dirt in it already.

Armed and Ready doesn't have as much dirt in it as you are probably imagining. Clean up your amp and give it a go, just dig in. Turn up your mids. AOK

It took me a long time to learn that most players dont use nearly as much gain/distortion as I always thought they did. I remember hearing or reading an interview with Angus and he talked about his sound being almost clean, I was like :i:

Not to do this for Jake:

ego0

but he plays pretty well for someone his age. What would do him the most good would be getting a slightly larger amp and finding a band to play with...the live playing experience would really the best thing for him at this point...the recording somewhat but not as much (and yes, I know that its hard finding good players your age when you are home schooled smi)
