Gig report - the good - the bad - and the rest of the story.....

Great pics Prages (and Mrs P)! Your camera takes some nice shots! Thanks for taking those and being there.....and jamming. BTW , I had a good talk with Jon (the other guitar player) who hangs out at that club a lot (for the poker tournaments). The sound guy we had is not the regular one, he just started doing it a couple months ago after hanging out there and helping for about 5 years. And yeah - he agreed (Jon did...) that the sound sucked and the sound guy sucked.

Get some pieces of black cloth... I've used black sheets, black pillow cases, etc.... and keep them in your gig rig boxes.

Then when you're using milk crates to prop up the monitors, you can drape the small black cloth over it before you set the monitor down so at least from the crowd it looks really clean. I've used similar things suspended by an unused boom to hide the horrendous snakes of cables going in and out of the amp racks as well. It prevents the stage from drawing attention away from the performers.

Noted....however - this was the house PA, not ours. I might pass the suggestion along to Jon as something the club can do to clean up the look. Good suggestion...

As far as the monitor mix goes, I'm not a fan of anything in the monitors other than vocals on smaller stages and definitely no effects. Just loud and dry vocals so I can really hear myself.

Those are really cool pics. I freaked out for a second as I panned down the pics and couldn't figure out how Dave grew hair and then realized it was Prages.

As for monitor mixes, no efx and only vocals - I concur.

The sound guy kept asking us to turn the amps down so he could pump them loud in the house system and then give us some of our amps in the monitors. Except I had no guitars at all in my monitor and apparently I was very loud in the other guitar players monitor. The principle works if you have a good sound tech, but he was not a good sound tech. I could barely hear my amp and I was standing right in front of the sucker.

Well, at least you couldn't hear any of your vocals through your monitor either, so it was a well balanced mix. :grin:

Seriously, we get better monitor mixes running two hot spots than that guy gave you guys with those 20 big wedges he had.
 
And as for the quality of the pics, these (and all of the ones from Moab and Rocky Mtn Natl Park that I posted in the other thread) were taken with a new camera we just picked up a few weeks ago.

It's an Olympus SZ-12. 14 mp and 24x optical zoom. Got it at K-Mart for $160. :embarrassed:

I'm not convinced its the camera. The old one took great pics too.
