For those who have never had the opportunity to tour Sweetwater....

There is a Taco Bell 10 minutes from my house. On the drive between Taco Bell and my house there are three or four quality Mexican spots plus a really good Cuban joint, a few blocks west there are two more good Mexican joints and a Venezuelan rotisserie chicken restaurant. I haven’t been to a Taco Bell in at least 35 years.
I work with a lot of amigos. You know what they love? Taco Bell. Is it as good as authentic joints, no, but it’s good enough for what it is.

Taco Bell is not “authentic Mexican food” or whatever, but it is weirdly delicious. It’s probably the best fast food thing and certainly the best option for non-meat fast food/road eats when you’re out and about in Murricah.

I agree that Taco Bell is delicious. Most fast food companies just try to nail the perfect balance of fat, salt, and sugar that keeps people addicted. To me that stuff just tastes bad. But Taco Bell actually put spices into their food so I can enjoy it.

We have real Mexican food and authentic Italian cuisine in Colorado Springs….

My wife says that Taco Bell is great drunk food.

I don't drink at all, soooooo... LOL

I used to work with a lot of Hispanic dudes too, never did I once hear anybody profess their love for Taco Bell. The one by me is at a stoplight, I’ll start doing my own research and peeking inside to see who is patronizing it. The numbers my be skewed because it’s one of those JFC/Taco Bells.

The K-Taco-Hut combos aren’t really a fair eval. Also, urban fast food joints are a different beast. Much stranger cross-section of Freeburtyland. That said, I’d wager that the K-Bell at Irving and California isn’t serving the same demographic as the Wrigleyville brunch spots where you hang out in your fleece vest.

My wife is Spanish Italian. Her family in Corpus Christi, TX have an entire museum dedicated to the family lineage. Her Mom RIP used to make the best homemade flour tortillas. Her sisters can replicate it pretty close. My wife never learned.

There is no written down recipe. It's something like two fists of flour, a pinch of this and that, etc. So delicious!

I’m surprised they would have 4 a.m. bars in a religious stronghold like South Bend. I’d bet that unlike here you can still smoke in the bars in Indiana.

There are a few bars that allow smoking (or just pay fines and ignore the laws)... I've only booked a handful of those (not knowing) and turned them down going forward. That said, we play a lot of outdoor shows which are regulated even less, or purposefully allow smoking on the outdoor patios, so yeah... it's a reality still in the midwest.

All this talk of unauthentic Mexican food reminds me of that old punk rock band 'White Guy Spicy'.

Okay, so there is no band named that. There should be.
