Fashion thread: Shoes

I didn't know Viagra made shoes.

For work, I can wear sneakers and casual shoes. I usually wear junky clothes too, simply because nice stuff would get torn up quick. For dress up time with a suit though, I have a pair of Florsheims that I've had for over a decade. They are as comfy as can be. No doubt that being made of real leather has loads to do with that.

When I think of "stylish for years to come" I tend to think of nice dress shoes. Oxfords, loafers, always leather, definitely not suede. When shoe shopping, I've found that once you eliminate everything made in China, you're left with a pretty solid set of quality, stylish choices. The classics never go out of style. Two great pairs of shoes -- basic black, basic brown -- will cover the essentials.

But obviously I'm not mowing the lawn or hiking a muddy trail in those kind of shoes. :embarrassed:

I'm wearing Crocs at this moment.
they're my house shoes.

for out-of-the-house, I've got some black leather runner of some sort.
Scholl's, I think.
pretty decent.

and some $10 crap shoes with skullz on 'em.
mostly for work, those.

I havent' been able to find a pair of motorcycle boots that I've liked in almost 20 years :(

Good rule of thumb on the Chinese shoes.
For dress level shoes, I find it is best to spend some money for quality. It doesn't have to be uber pricy, though. They will last a long time and feel good enough to walk in all day. Brown and black cover everything.

brown?

in what circumstance might I have to wear brown shoes?

apart from walking through the cow pasture, that is.

Some of my past jobs required a tie. That means slacks and a dress shirt, which means dress shoes.
You have either black/grey/blue based business clothes, or brown/tan.

ah, okay, I getcha

I've had to do the same at a couple places, but stuck with black/blue stuff

I'm not so hot with colours, so going black saved me from doing something like green shirt, blue tie, plaid pants.

I have to wear dress shoes at work every day and I long ago learned that buying expensive shoes that are goign to get worn into the ground in anything from 3-12 months is a bad idea.

Now I go for reasonable priced shoes that I like the look of. I end up wearing them 99% of the time anyway.

I've got a cracking pair of purpley brown suede chelsea boots but they hurt like hell and they kind of lose their wow factor if you wear them too often.

Crocs are the shit though, if I could wear them every day I would.
