Fashion...is it?

I had a very narrow lapel italian cut jacket I will wear with a very narrow tie once that I bought from an estate sale. Kinda of a very dark, subtle burgandy tone. I loved that look 10+years ago, paired with a narrow toed pair of Italian shoes. Black, not white. The jacket disappeared about 10 years ago. Probably for the best. I would not pull it off that well any more, and would rather look like I was trying too hard if I wore it to a cocktail party or something.

 Right?? I agree with @wok that even some of us older guys want to look good. It is just not easy for us to do at times. Especially if one's body no longer fits the look. Also, flip flops split my toes uncomfortably. I wear very predictable Dad Sanuk's, or Vans if not at the beach.

The jacket stays on only during required moments from May to September.
Houston is Africa hot. We laugh at Biloxi hot.

Tarzan couldn't take this kinda hot.

I'm fine with "required moments". Just don't leave it in the car.

High quality shirt and tie makes that look better. And not beat up shoes. But sometimes you can get a decent quality shirt at Costco if you shop well. Nordstrom shirts are nice but give me a break on the price! I will buck up for Nordstrom ties, maybe one a year.

I rarely see super skinny, short length mod suits worn outside of the hipster population.
Everyone else wears their old shit or something from Men's Wearhouse:

I'll note that while this isn't a super slim suit like the one shown in the first post, it's reasonably well-fitted; the sleeves stop short of the wrist, it's not too baggy, etc.

I think it's far more common to see people wearing suits that are too big for them than the other way around, and that looks far worse than a super slim suit like the first post one.

I buy a lot of shirts at Costco. You have to watch the material thickness though.

I have to admit, I have a really expensive tailored suit I can’t wear anymore because I had it fitted when I was a lot ummm pudgier.

For interviews and other occasions or casually, reasonably skinny guys like me, cant go weong with slim fitting dark trousers and a fitted white shirt.

Ps I do wear skinny jeans, so sue me

I don't know who Tony is either, but my interpretation is that trends come and go, but simple, conservative style is always fashionable. This worked in the 30's and with a few minor tweaks, it still works today.

Bingo! Don't waste you money on the next big thing, a year from now, it will be dated.

I don't know who he is either, had to look up the quote so I would get it right. Something my brother's partner said to me in the early 80s. Memory is NOT that good.

You can always tell the forumites who don’t have a decent tailor.
Fortunately, with a little taking in in the lower back, and proper hemming of the slacks and once in a while sleeves, I am good off the rack. If I was in Seattle full time, I might have my young nephew, who appears to be a good tailor there, make me some good jackets and suits with nice materials with good textures. But not really worth it right now. I might have him make a good cashmere sports coat. And maybe a tweed that doesn't look like it came from The Bon. I would use those pieces a long time.

Ps I do wear skinny jeans, so sue me

Go for it if you can. :) Just looks shitty on me. I am not fat, but my alpine ski legs and ass prevent me from wearing those. Seriously. Even when I was a skinny college kid (freshman year before beer weight) I had to buy 501's three sizes up to go over my legs.

Whoah there mr condescending Passive Aggressive. Some people like to look good and stylish/ fashionable, nothing to do with inferiority complex.

It appears to me you yourself desperately try to justify your own lifestyle choices by berating others.

And before you ask, I don’t wear skinny suits, as my legs are too short to carry that well. But kudos to those that can.

Enjoy feeling superior in your flipflops :thu:
Dude, you started the condescending and passive aggressive antics with your first reply to me. In this case I just played by the rules you chose to play by.

If you don't want to play by your own rules then don't start, or request that the rules be adjusted so you don't get so hurt when others give it back.

I have no need to justify my lifestyle choices. They are my own choice but I also will not stand by while others think I should follow their tastes. If I don't like their choices I will say so if asked. This post asked, I answered.

I don't care what you think about the way I dress. I dress to be comfortable, not to impress, unless impressive dress is required.

You seemed to be put out by my opinion about fashion and needed to express your displeasure with my choices. I did not ask for your input, yet I will admit that posting my opinion opens me up for criticism. You chose to criticize, I merely played along with you.

The desperation you speak of seems to come from you. You seem to be offended of what I think about fashion, and the fashion shown in the OP. Your initial reply to me was snarky, thus it deserved snark in return.

You want to be civil, then be civil. You want to be offended at me for offering up my opinion, be offended. You want to express your hurt by snark, prepare to be snarked upon.

Otherwise don't play.

Another quote, not going to bother looking this one up. Horizontal lines are not your friend.
you don't have to look it up.
it was the episode where Trapper John goes home and the MASH gang bought him that suit so he'd have some "proper" clothes to travel in, and they picked that pattern as a joke.
seen it 6 times.
