I could never wear loafers unless I wear really thin and slick men dress socks so the heal doesn't grab. Otherwise my socks wind up bunched down in my shoes.

Thats what I do. I have a couple of pairs of nice leather loafers I inherited from my father in law's closet when he passed.
Classy Italian penny loafers and a well worn pair of boat shoes.
