"even your tone knob can change your intonation"

I overheard that gem today when I was picking out a pack of strings at the near by GC. A customer walked up to the guitar tech booth and asked the tech about setting the intonation on his guitar. I wasn't paying attention until that line grabbed my attention.

Apparently his point was that his professional grade $300+ tuner is unaffected by changes in the tone knob position, unlike your consumer grade tuner....so if you're setting your intonation with out a hyper accurate tuner, your tone knob can change your intonation......

Fuck that guy.

I use the pitchlab app on my tablet.

That way, there is no effect from the electronics.

Fuck that guy.

You have amazing self-control sir.

I'd have said something and then said something to the manager. I don't want my students hearing shit like that

So what happens when my tone caps are orange drops, oil, ceramic or paper?

Will that affect the intonation :embarrassed:

Blarg.

The tone knob setting can make it harder or easier for a tuner to get a "fix," maybe that is what he was clumsily trying to get at. That sure isn't the same as changing the intonation though.

It would have been really funny if it turned out the customer's tuner was a clip-on...
