Damn think I might just have got burned on Paypal

jbj

Poor old Geordie's array...
Saw something on gumtree I've been looking for.

A guy named Paul was selling it so I text the number with a few questions and he got back nice and quickly.

I've just paypalled the money and it turns out the paypal account owner's name is bhabinder singh chahal

I've only every paypalled people I know or people from HC I trusted so I dunno, this might be fairly common but I'm still apprehensive.

Maybe it is just some Indian fellow who goes by Paul as he got tired spelling/explaining Bhabinder all the time. Might want to text him and make sure that is his name/account at least. I work with a good number of Indians and Chinese who prefer to take a western first name to 'fit in' a little better in the workplace...especially those with long or difficult to pronounce names.

I fired back a few texts saying it had been sent and to let me know when it would ship and if he got the payment OK.

He got back quickly saying he'd received it and it will be shipped out recorded delivery tomorrow.

Hopefully it's much ado about nothing but I'm glad I used my credit card instead of bank account for this one :thu:

Hi jbj, i have just had the same experience with this guy BHABINDER SINGH CHAHAL, im wondering if you did recieve your item?
as i am now thinking i have been burned.

Sometimes you just have to go with your first impression and extend a little trust to a fellow human being.
If you get burned, we'll all help you track the fucker down and kill him.

fwiw I got my stuff no problem and the guy even got in touch by phone to make sure I'd got it....

Yeah it's slightly strange / worrying.

My brother had his paypal hacked last week so I'm checking mine as we speak.

Nope nothing fishy though I have no clue how this guy found me. A quick google search of mr chahal brings up some doctor from the US. Nothing linking him to the UK or my post on this site

to be safe, get Mark to backtrack this new guy...

new guy, sorry if I'm wrong, but better safe than sorry

I favor a really dull pitchfork, myself.

I've used ebay and paypal in the past with no problems, but the last couple years, I really refrain from anything other than local transactions because of paypal's weird ability to control YOUR money. But, I didn't see anything weird about the name thing, other than the name, itself, and, even the azza post made sense, in this day and age.
