Here was my dad band from 10 years ago. Lol
I only recognized Jerry as well. I caught the names at the end and investigated. They all had either music or television careers. They weren't huge stars, but they had (have) careers. As far as nailing the original, for me it depends on the song. If it was a really cool part I'd keep it. For example the synth parts & solo in "Jump" by Van Halen. I made sure to play that as close as possible. On a good sounding synth through a powerful P.A. , that was a lot of fun, especially with a good drummer.
Most songs aren't like that though- I found that especially on bass , many songs had a lot of room for making things better, or just putting my own spin on it. Some songs surprised me though at how cool the bass parts were. For example the 80's song "One thing leads to Another" by The Fixx . We mainly did 80's songs.
And who were the others in the video? I only recognized Cantrell.

I saw that movie in a hotel room in Oahu. It's one of my favorite movies. When I started watching Deadwood, it took me forever to figure out where I recognized Dan from. Once I made the connection, every time he was in a scene, either franks and beans or have you seen my wiener popped into my head.
And Jonathan Richman is great. When I started watching Deadwood, it took me forever to figure out where I recognized Dan from. Once I made the connection, every time he was in a scene, either franks and beans or have you seen my wiener popped into my head.
