Country Soul

There was a "country funk" box set/compilation maybe a decade back that might be what you're looking for. It's country guys playing funky stuff (think Poke Salad Annie), so it might be a different angle than you have in mind.

That sounds cool. Like Jerry Reed's 'Amos Moses', that kind of thing?

I was listening to BW Goes CW the other day and was wondering why this wasn’t a more clearly defined and popular genre. Soul and Country share a lot of the same roots. The founders of Stax made a studio to record country music and the locals that showed up to sing were into other stuff and some of the best music ever recorded happened. Ray Charles modern sounds in country was huge. Stumbled across this yesterday and am curious to find other current stuff that fits that description.

The whole record is really good. Feels like Joe Cocker at times.

Wow that sounds excellent!

Kind of cliché, I guess, but my favorite soul/country artist is Chris Stapleton. I'm gonna give these guys a good listen, though. Thanks!

I’ll have to check that Bobby Womack album out. Elizabeth Moen sometimes blends soul with a bit of country feel.

I’ve been slowly thinning my vinyl herd because I have way too much. Coincidentally this ended up on the turntable last night. I like the Joe Stampley truckin hit “Roll On Big Mama” which is probably why I bought this record at the thrift store. . It’s not what I would call overly soulful but it’s halfway decent.
