CoronaCaster - A Build Thread

I curious what the weight is? My one issue with those Rosser listings is they are all Northern Ash. a 6 lbs. body would be a non-starter for me.

@Wyatt - 6 pounds for body alone

@Lerxst - It appears to be the protective plastic over the pickguard... I thought the same thing... I'll pull it away and see when I'm less apt to scratch it

Raising the grain today!

Finished grain filling and did one more layer of sanding sealer to level everything out.

I taped off the top layer and starting using my oil paint / drying agent / panickOhNoz / spread it around / wipe most of it off / it doesn't look too bad method.

Dry Time - 12 hoursish

Coat 2 - It looks roasted which I'm happy with.

I'm going to let it dry another 12 to 24 hours... It does look a little uneven - We'll see what happens in the 12 hour range... I tried to fix a spot and nearly wiped all of the paint off... I know I'm using too much or trying to do it in too few coats... It's the only thing that makes sense but hey... I'm tryin ..

Also - Grain filler is cool as heck. I definitely improved from the sample wood pieces!

Going to let it dry for a full 24 hours because the red is a pain in the berries... I'll do another clean up coat and start the finishing process.

Whilst it was drying yesterday I did some mods to my 4Runner - blacked out the bumper and put on the heritage grill with spiffy lights. Pleased with both.

It's really hard to get how this looks in person.

This is the closest. I'm on to poly and I've done the first level sand. This is day three I think of poly. I have a couple of sand-throughs. If they get hit on the next level sand, I'll repair.

Looking good

Following your progress I'm not sure I see any advantages to artist oils & japan drier over the regular dyes and stains in either process or end results. Thoughts?
